In this role, you'll ensure the quality, freshness, and safety of all incoming and outgoing product, while managing a team of inspectors and collaborating with key departments. Key Responsibilities:
Lead, train, and supervise a team of quality control inspectors and technicians.
Oversee daily inspections of inbound and outbound produce to ensure quality, freshness, and adherence to specifications.
Develop and implement quality control protocols and standard operating procedures where necessary (SOPs).
Conduct internal audits and collaborate with food safety teams to ensure compliance with HACCP, GAP, and other regulatory standards.
Work closely with procurement, operations, and sales teams to align quality standards with customer expectations.
Investigate quality issues, conduct root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
Maintain accurate QC records and generate detailed reports for management and customers.
Provide feedback and training to growers and packing teams to drive improvements in quality.
Monitor cold chain management and ensure produce is handled at optimal storage temperatures.
Travel to growers, suppliers, or customer sites as needed for inspections or support.
Qualifications:
Minimum 5 years of quality control experience
in fresh produce, preferably in a leadership or managerial role.
Strong knowledge of post-harvest handling, produce grading standards, and food safety practices.
Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to manage and motivate a team.
Proficient in using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and QC tracking systems.
Familiarity with third-party audits (Primus, SQF, Social risk etc.) is a strong asset.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) is an asset.
Valid driver's license
and willingness to travel locally or regionally.
Work Environment:
Fast-paced, cold-chain warehouse and packing facility.
On-site inspections in refrigerated areas and occasional outdoor field visits.
Standing, lifting, and inspecting produce for extended periods.
