Job Purpose:



Reporting directly to the Team Lead, Quality Control, the Quality Control Inspector will engage in ensuring the conformance of material to the drawings, ITP and procedures used to produce items manufactured or sold by the company.

Specific Responsibilities:



Learn and understand Exchanger Industries' Quality Management System to ensure all processes and procedures are followed with regards to Quality Inspection Inspect and test all pressure vessels and/or other units for visible weld defects, correct material and grade, correct dimensions, attachment layouts, conformance with construction drawings, and work order specifications while applying knowledge of welding principles and theory. Perform and interpret/evaluate tests and test results in accordance with applicable codes, standards, specifications, or procedures. Identify and understand all code/ customer requirements per job on all work-in progress and completed fabrication for accuracy and compliance. Complete all documentation required for the construction of vessels and units including material test reports (MTRs), NDE Reports, Hydro / Pneumatic testing reports, PWHT Records and Manufacturer's Data Reports

MTR Review / Material Control



Check that material meets the physical and chemical requirements of the applicable edition of ASME Code, Section II (same edition as indicated on the construction drawing) and material meets client specifications. Respond to inquiries into material heat numbers. Verify plate used for pressure retaining parts shall be traceable to the original code required marking consisting of the heat number and plate identifier. Once accepted, apply the EIL material check stamp Responsible to ensure material is identified and correct at all stages of fabrication. Non-conforming material is identified and immediately removed from use. Heat numbers of vessel components are recorded onto the QC copy of the vessel drawing. Inspect and ensure all materials used in the fabrication of pressure vessels and pressure piping are properly identified, marked and are consistent with the bill of materials listed on the drawing.

Inspection and Testing Program



Verify various procedures related to projects are carried out to code and client specifications. Verify records of material used are available in job file. Work with and assist additional QC Inspectors to ensure all documentation is accurate prior to forwarding to Document Control. Witness and perform visual inspections for Hydrostatic testing for compliance to drawings and applicable fabrication codes or customer specifications. Maintain detailed written records concerning welding procedures, materials, quality, and instruction to contractors, daily reports and inspection tests made. Measure units on the floor, record heat numbers and weld stamps Monitor welder / welder operator performance with respect to proper use of approved welding procedures, consistency in use of preferred fabrication methods and overall quality of workmanship Coordinate with ABSA and 3rd parties for inspections Recommend when analytical non-destructive examination (NDE) methods such as magnetic particle or liquid penetrant or ultrasound inspection methods are required to supplement visual inspection and perform, as necessary. Assist in the development and maintenance of current welding and welding inspection standards and ensure staff/contractors adhere to current safety requirements regarding welding practices.

Reporting Relationships / Accountabilities:



Reports directly in the Team Lead, Quality Control Works cooperatively with Operation team members Provides support to ABSA and other 3rd party inspectors

Qualifications & Skills:



Graduate from an Institute of Technology program such as welding engineering technology, with a focus on welding design and technology, and/or metallurgy 5+ years' experience performing inspection of pressure vessels and relevant experience within heavy manufacturing, welding, machining Demonstrated understanding and application of Canadian Welding Standards CSA B51, CSA W47.1 & W59 and ASME B31.3, Sec I, II, V, VIII & IX, TEMA, ANSI, API-660, 661 ABSA - Welding Examiner Certificate would be considered a valuable asset. CWB Welding Inspector Level II required NACE Lv. 1 required (Level 2 an asset) PMI Basic knowledge of NDE inspection methods and applications Ability to pass a vision exam and a color blindness test. Must have adequate, documented training to substantiate qualifications. Previous Welding or Journeyman / B-Ticket welder experience would be considered an asset. Must possess exceptional attention to detail. Ability to read, write and understand spoken and written English. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to convert between different units of measure and to compute rate, ratio, and percentages. Ability to organize and time-manage themselves and others. Pro-active communication with all staff, including the shop floor. Ability to confidently make decisions.

Physical Demands/Work Environment::



Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, climb/descend stairs and ladders and bend. Work within a heavy industrial welding/machining environment

Travel Requirements:



Local and/or international travel may be required.
