Compensation Range $5,906.25 - $8,508.42 CAD Monthly

Job Summary
UBC has embarked on a multi-year journey to transform its academic and administrative support processes and system environments for the entire UBC community. In November 2020, UBC successfully went live with its new HR and Finance implementation of Workday. The Integrated Renewal Program (IRP) is now focused on the journey to renew the Student information ecosystem, anchored by the implementation of Workday Student.

The Integrated Renewal Program\xe2\x80\x94Student (IRP Student) vision is to transform the way UBC supports learning and research, and how UBC works, to create a cohesive, integrated, and enriched experience for students, staff, and faculty. This implementation will result in superior support for UBC students, a better user experience, a new set of tools, a new way of working, and improved reporting for informed decision-making. IRP Student will leverage the industry-leading cloud enterprise solution Workday to replace our current core Student administration systems with a new integrated, user friendly, mobile-enabled platform.

The Quality Assurance Analyst II (QA Analyst) provides specialist advice and analysis to ensure that all information systems programs and projects meet end-user requirements and organizational standards for usability, operability and performance. The Incumbent will analyze requirements, create and execute test cases, and track test results in one or multiple workstreams. The QA Analyst will report to the QA Lead or QA Manager while working closely with the Project Managers and Delivery Team. As a member of the Testing Shared Services team in IRP Student, the incumbent will work on one or multiple testing areas depending on the testing resourcing needs in the program.

Organizational Status
The QA Analyst reports to the QA Lead or QA Manager within IRP Student, while working closely with test management team, project managers, business analysts, systems analysts, developers, test team, delivery teams, vendors, and other staff across IRP. This role will interact regularly with other administrative and academic units.

Work Performed
Specific Duties:
  • Provides testing and validation services to ensure IRP Student Program meets organizational standards and end-user requirements.
  • Assesses testing needs utilizing a structured requirements process (gathering, analyzing, documenting, and managing changes)
  • Works with functional SMEs, technical developers, and QA Leads to develop and write appropriate test cases including but not limited tenant/environment validation, functional, systems, data validation, integration, and reports testing
  • Tracks test cases, setup test runs, and records test result through the use of Jama
  • Traces test cases to requirements to confirm test coverage
  • Maintains traceability across requirements to test cases to defects
  • Performs preliminary shortlist of tests for tenants to ensure core configurations and functionality are working as expected before it is released for a test cycle.
  • Identifies, analyzes and documents bugs through execution of test cases or ad-hoc testing
  • Tracks and verifies defect resolution using defect tracking system, JIRA.
  • Performs in-depth defects troubleshooting with functional or technical team members
  • Identifies, creates and executes API test cases via Postman or SOAPUI as needed
  • Evaluates and recommends opportunities for test automation and creates automated

testing scripts

Core Duties:
  • Provides specialist advice to and consults with appropriate IT personnel or others as appropriate on quality assurance issues and processes.
  • Analyzes and reviews system features and requirements (i.e. functional, integration, security, scalability and performance) and provides advice on options, risks and costs versus benefits.
  • Validates customized software, functional specifications and prototypes.
  • Implements and maintains monitoring and load testing systems.
  • Evaluates and recommends opportunities for test automation and creates automated testing scripts.
  • Evaluates and recommends performance testing and creates performance testing scripts.
  • Develops and maintains document templates for test plans and standards for QA testing
  • Provides quality assurance testing and validation services to ensure information systems programs and projects meet organizational standards and end-user requirements.
  • Creates test plans, scenarios and test cases, procures test data, executes tests, and documents results.
  • Identifies, analyzes and documents bugs using a bug tracking system, verifies fixes, and follows the QA Test Lifecycle process.
  • Participates in design reviews.
  • Maintains appropriate professional designations and up-to-date knowledge of current information technology techniques and tools.
  • Performs other related duties as required.


Consequence of Error/Judgement
The Integrated Renewal Program will transform the way we interact and work on all aspects of the full scope of the Student, Financial and HR systems with the goal of making it easy and efficient for the faculty, staff and students, and creating a cohesive, integrated experience for all users. This project will touch the whole campus (over 10,000 faculty and staff and over 60,000 students) and thus has a high consequence of error with a negative impact to the whole organization.

The QA Analyst plays a significant role in supporting the implementation of systems and processes. Work requires judgment and initiative. Errors could have a significant impact on the success of project delivery, subsequent effects on UBC s strategic goals and visions.

Supervision Received
Works under the administrative direction of the QA Lead in IRP Student. The QA Analyst must be able to work independently and assume full responsibility for his/her decisions. Work is reviewed in terms of achievement of specific objectives by the QA Lead or QA Manager.

Supervision Given
Provides direction or procedural instruction to new or less experienced staff. Required to provide in person or documentation-based training to the IRP team and, where required, other IT professionals or stakeholders. Helps with the onboarding activities from the QA perspective.

Minimum Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of three years of related experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor degree (or higher) in Business Administration, Commerce, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Business Technology Management, or another relevant program is preferred.
  • Significant years of experience working with cumulative software testing experience (i.e. requirements and test scenario / case creation, test approach and strategy, test execution, test reporting, defect management)
  • Experience with large program implementation supporting multiple testing functions (data management, environment management, defect tracking and reporting)
  • Experience working with in test case management and defect management tool
  • Experience in testing of configured COTS solution on cloud platform and various integrated point solutions
  • Experience in API testing using tools like POSTMAN, JMeter etc.
  • Ability to work in multiple functional areas and balance competing priorities while accomplishing the tasks at hand
  • Ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail
  • Certifications in one or more of the following are an asset: related test management or testing certifications (ISTQB, ASQ, QAI, PMI-RMP, Six Sigma)
  • Experience with Student and Enrolment functional or system implementation, Workday, integration background with MuleSoft, ERP systems, automation is an asset
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
