Eligible for Employee Referral Bonus: $1500Please note this process follows the BWXT employee guidelines.Referral bonus only valid for externally referred applicants.Requisition Number: 51171We are looking for a Quality Inspector III- CMM for our facility in Oakville, Ontario.JOB PURPOSEThe Quality Control Inspector III is responsible for validating materials and manufactured components to ensure they are compliant with work instructions and set specifications. They may have specialized knowledge in either CMM Programming or Calibration. In addition, they must have demonstrated ability to troubleshoot issues related to manufacturing, measurements, and inspection reports. They are subject matter experts on a range of products.ACCOUNTABILITIESIncumbents may perform one or more of the following tasks at a senior, specialized level.CMM

  • Lead CMM programming and troubleshooting activities.
  • Determine alternatives to CMM inspection to reduce equipment bottlenecks while still fulfilling inspection requirements.
  • Assist Production in the development of on-machine inspection processes.
  • Provide assistance with calibration and re-certification on various inspection gauging.
  • In the event that a product being inspected is deemed to be non-conforming, prepare comprehensive non-conformance reports in a timely manner for review by the appropriate Engineer or Quality Manager.
  • Assist in training and orientation of new Quality Technicians as required to perform indoctrination and training on specialized processes, or on regular processes, as the subject matter expert.
  • May be asked to provide training and support to new QC inspectors in quality assurance techniques.
Calibration
  • Perform calibration and re-certification on various inspection gauging.
  • Maintain equipment and equipment inventory, scheduling of routine and non-routine maintenance of equipment/instruments (e.g., balances, gauges, etc.) with external vendors as well as internal personnel.
  • Send equipment to vendors for calibration and/or repair; coordinate services on-site; communicate with vendors and service personnel regarding instrumentation issues; write transmittal letters regarding shipments and service required; review vendor equipment certificates for compliance and accuracy.
  • Initiate and provide high-quality documentation of all lab-related activities.
  • Schedule external equipment and software validation services. Maintain records and updates to ensure timelines and due dates are met.
  • Support equipment/instruments acquisitions including collection of quotes for CapEx items and coordinate with vendors.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge and understanding of quality system requirements as they apply to laboratory equipment.
  • Review and provide technical input on calibration and qualification procedures.
  • Drafting of Standard Operating Procedures for equipment.
  • Assist in maintaining and, where applicable, improving the effectiveness of the computer system validation and data integrity program.
  • Assist with the adoption and implementation of a laboratory information management system (LIMS).
Inspection
  • Perform final inspection activities (ensure non-conformances are closed, previous ops in MCS all signed complete, documents for the part are complete) and complete sign off in MCS.
  • Prepare any related dimensional inspection reports and documentation.
  • Support Quality Engineers and Engineers in the preparation of robust inspection procedures and test plans.
  • Audit, inspect and monitor quality requirements in process and accordance with the company quality assurance policies and customer specifications for first-off, in-process, receiving, and final inspection activities.
  • Support implementation and maintenance of systems which support the overall quality and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Work closely with the Production team to resolve inspection questions, identify non-conformances and take immediate action to support corrective action and resolution of all issues.
  • May be required to assist with Quality Surveillance of sub suppliers. Activities to include dimensional inspection, document review, packaging review, or other aspects as required.
  • May be required to perform witness at vendors for non-nuclear products.
  • Perform accurate mechanical, physical and visual inspection of raw materials, components, and sub-assemblies as per control plans and specification requirements.
  • Verify dimensions of parts using hand precision measuring instruments like vernier calipers, micrometers, depth gauges, height gauges, chamfer gauges, radius gauges, thread gauges and CMM as necessary.
  • Perform final inspection activities (ensure non-conformances are closed, previous ops in MCS all signed complete, documents for the part are complete) and complete sign off in MCS.
  • Create comprehensive dimensional reports from CMM data and conventional measuring equipment.
  • Document and report inspection results and completed purchase orders. File, scan and archive as necessary.
  • Perform product identification and traceability activities, as required.
  • Sign off MCS for completed operations you inspected and if witness was required work with customer and BWXT Witness to get MCS signed off.
  • Interpret customer drawings (including geometric tolerances) and technical information packages.
  • Assess part compliance, initiate NCR and follow through NCR process for disposition and timely closure.
  • May be required to perform routine calibration and re-certification on various inspection gauging.
  • Safely move components including the use of lifting devices such as overhead cranes and jib cranes as applicable.
Administration
  • Follow all company policies and health and safety procedures.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment at all times when required.
  • Report any personal workplace injuries to direct supervisor immediately.
  • Report safety issues to direct supervisor as soon as possible.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Technical Diploma in Quality or relevant field.
  • 5+ years working in quality control and/or receiving environment.
  • Minimum of 5 years\' Zeiss CMM experience.
  • Experience with CMM Programming and/or quality equipment calibration.
  • Proficiency interpreting complex manufacturing drawings with GDT specifications to determine the appropriate dimensional inspections to establish compliance.
  • Knowledge of ASME Code, ISO 9001, CSA N285.0 and N299 quality programs is an asset.
  • Expertise in the use of appropriate measuring tools and equipment including verniers, calipers, micrometers, depth gauges, height gauges, chamfer gauges, radius gauges, thread gauges, etc.
  • Familiarity with controls required for calibration of measuring and test equipment.
  • Understanding of specific NDE techniques: liquid penetration, magnetic particle inspection, ultrasonic testing and radiographic testing an asset.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and Outlook).
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills working within a team-based environment.
  • Strong ability to work independently to complete assignments promptly while maintaining the high standards required in our industry.
  • Ability to solve routine technical problems using a variety of systematic approaches.
The hourly rate for this position in Ontario at the start of employment is expected to be between $59,000 and $86,000 per hour. The rate offered is based on market location and may vary further depending on individualized factors for job candidates, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to those same considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits.
