The Quality Control Chemist is responsible for ensuring that all over-the-counter (OTC) and cosmetic products meet quality standards and regulatory requirements. This position focuses on testing, analyzing, and maintaining the quality of products during the night shift.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensures applicable standard operating procedures and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) are followed for all activities
- Prepare samples for analysis and perform sample extractions according to applicable SOPs and test methods;
- Conduct routine and non-routine testing of raw materials, OTC and cosmetic products using established protocols, integration, and data entry into our system;
- Document test results and maintain accurate records in compliance with regulatory standards and internal procedures
- Troubleshoot and resolve quality-related issues in collaboration with production and R&D teams.
- Perform stability testing and method validation procedures for applicable test methods;
- Perform regular instrument maintenance, troubleshooting and calibration;
- Develop new specification for bulk products.
- Participate in internal audits and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Initiate, report and participate to investigations for NCR/OOS, Deviations, and Change Control
- Work independently while time-managing multiple batches
- Work collaboratively with production, compounding staff, R&D, Inventory Control, production planning to ensure product is manufactured according to standards.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related field.
- Knowledge in a range of wet chemistry techniques and basic laboratory instrumentation (e.g. Chemical and physical identifications test, limit tests, conductivity, density, pH, specific gravity, viscosity, etc.)
- 3+ years experience in a quality control laboratory, preferably in the OTC or cosmetics industry.
- Strong understanding of regulatory requirements (e.g., Health Canada, FDA, etc).
- Proficiency in analytical techniques (e.g., HPLC, GC, spectroscopy).
- Excellent attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and effectively in a team environment.
- Flexibility to work night shifts and adapt to changing priorities.
- Ability to lift and carry materials up to 5 kg
- Prolonged periods of standing or sitting may be required.
- Must be able to work in a laboratory environment with various chemicals
