QA Engineering Intern
The QA Engineering team at Dotdash Meredith is a highly technical group responsible for ensuring a flawless user experience across all digital platforms, including web, mobile, and services. They are not just testers; they are engineers who build and use solutions that assure the quality of development.
The QA Engineering team is seeking an intern. This internship is full time and will start in September and wrap up in May 2026.
Key Responsibilities:Execute predefined test cases.
Report and track basic defects.
Understand and follow test plans.
Develop simple automated tests.
Collaborate on requirement analysis.
Track defects and support test planning.
Candidates for this role should have:
Entry-level role focusing on learning foundational QA processes and tools. The individual assists in test execution, defect reporting, and basic requirement analysis under some supervision. Early-stage professional contributing to test automation and defect management. The individual starts taking ownership of smaller features and works closely with teams to ensure quality.Programming Proficiency: Demonstrate a good understanding of one or more programming languages, including functions, basic data structures (e.g., arrays, lists), and error handling. Begin to write maintainable code for test automation. Write simple scripts or modify existing code with guidance. Understand basic concepts such as variables, loops, and conditional statements.
Automation Framework and Knowledge: Demonstrate a solid understanding of the framework's structure and workflow. Capable of developing basic test scripts and understanding test execution reports. Understand basic framework components, run pre-written tests, and make minor modifications with some guidance.
Scripting and Automation Tools: Understand and use scripting languages proficiently to automate basic tasks. Familiarity with automation tools for task automation and test execution. Run and modify simple scripts under guidance. Gain familiarity with basic automation tools (e.g., Jenkins, Git).
Test Design and Development: Understand basic testing concepts such as test scenarios, test cases, and test data. Contribute to the execution and reporting of manual or automated tests. Write clear, concise, and maintainable test cases. Understand the basics of test automation and begin developing automated test scripts for straightforward test scenarios.
Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD): Understand the purpose of CI/CD in the software development lifecycle. Understand pipeline triggers and basic configuration, such as setting up test jobs and monitoring test execution.
Version Control and Collaboration: Understand the basics of version control, including commits, branches, and pull requests. Understand and follow the team's version control strategy, start engaging in collaborative workflows.
Test Data Management: Understand the basics of test data usage and how it supports testing processes. Understand how to align test data with test case requirements and maintain data accuracy.
Mobile Platforms (Bonus): Understands the fundamentals of mobile application behavior and begins identifying basic issues related to mobile platform compatibility. Contribute to mobile testing efforts, ensuring basic app functionality on Android and iOS devices, and start automating routine tests.
Gen-AI Skills: Understand the role of GAI in QA and learn how to leverage AI-generated content to enhance testing processes. Begin integrating GAI-generated assets into the QA workflow, such as using AI to assist in test data generation or basic test script creation.
Debugging and Troubleshooting: Understand basic debugging tools (e.g., browser developer tools, logs) and know how to report issues accurately. Apply basic troubleshooting methods and document findings to contribute to issue resolution.
Defect Tracking and Management: Understand the importance of accurate defect reporting and learn to log defects with clear, concise information. Ensure defects are tracked accurately, communicate their status effectively, and follow up on resolutions.
Reporting and Analytics: Understand how to read and interpret basic test results and communicate findings to the team. Deliver clear and concise reports, highlighting basic trends and issues, and assist in presenting this data to stakeholders.
Test Planning: Understand the importance of test planning and follow existing test plans. Develop basic test plans with guidance, ensure they align with project requirements, and communicate plans to the team.
Requirement Analysis: Understand how requirements translate into testable conditions, and seek clarification on ambiguous requirements. Ensure that requirements are well-understood and testable, and contribute to the development of clear test plans and cases.
Release Management: Understand the role of QAE in the release process and learn how to track and verify release readiness. Collaborate with the release team to ensure smooth releases, verify deployments, and contribute to post-release testing.
Application and Business Domain Knowledge: Understands basic functionality of the application under test and its core business purpose. Start contributing by understanding more detailed business workflows and how the application supports these workflows.
Customer Focus: Understands customer needs through provided requirements and feedback, ensuring basic product quality. Develop a deeper understanding of customer needs and incorporate them into testing efforts to enhance product usability and satisfaction.
Soft Skills: Has clear and concise verbal and written communication. Listen actively and seek clarification when needed. Communicate technical details more effectively, provide feedback constructively, and improve written documentation skills.
Collaboration: Build strong collaborative relationships with peers, understand the importance of team work, and participate actively in team projects.
