The Purchaser/Inventory Controller is responsible for managing inventory levels, purchasing goods and materials, and ensuring that the organization maintains adequate stock to support operations. This role includes forecasting, vendor management, inventory tracking, maintaining accurate records to optimize supply chain efficiency and minimize costs, and administrative assistant duties.
Key Responsibilities
Inventory Control
Monitor and maintain optimal inventory levels to meet operational needs.
Perform regular cycle counts and full physical inventory audits.
Investigate inventory discrepancies and implement corrective actions.
Track stock movement, usage, and turnover rates.
Ensure all inventory data in the system is accurate and up to date.
Identify excess, obsolete, or slow-moving items and recommend actions.
Purchasing
Source, select, and purchase materials, equipment, and supplies.
Obtain and compare quotes to ensure competitive pricing and quality.
Issue purchase orders (POs) and maintain purchasing records.
Track orders to ensure timely delivery and follow up on delays or issues.
Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and vendors.
Negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts to reduce costs and improve reliability.
Coordination & Communication
Collaborate with operations, warehouse staff, production teams, or retail departments to forecast material needs.
Communicate effectively with suppliers, drivers, and internal teams.
Work with finance on invoice verification and resolve billing discrepancies.
Data & Reporting
Maintain accurate documentation for inventory and purchasing activities.
Prepare regular reports on inventory levels, purchasing activity, and supplier performance.
Use inventory management software to track and analyze data.
Qualifications & Skills
Education / Experience
High school diploma required; post-secondary education in supply chain, logistics, or business an asset.
1-3 years of experience in inventory control, purchasing, or related field would be an asset
