Please note that this Publishing Manager position is funded by TRU\xe2\x80\x99s Integrated Strategic Planning (ISP) grant and supports the pan-university Honours College model and will involve considerable coordination with other ISP/Honours College teams and the Provost\'s Office. The Publishing Manager will support TRU\xe2\x80\x99s Integrated Strategic Planning (ISP) priorities as assigned by the Provost and the Open Press Advisory Board. The Publishing Manager will lead or/and facilitate projects in three major areas: 1) Open Educational Resource (OER) production and publishing, 2) open pedagogy, and 3) open or openly accessible knowledge mobilization and translation of research and scholarship. The Publishing Manager will collaborate closely with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) from all TRU\xe2\x80\x99s faculties, schools and departments. The Publishing Manager will engage with the SMEs in meaningful project consultation and planning, ensure effective project implementation, and provide regular monitoring, evaluation, and reporting. The Publishing Manager will mentor and supervise staff in an on-campus, in-person setting, and champion open initiatives through workshops and presentations. The Publishing Manager will work closely with the Advisory Board and the Faculty Editor to manage Open Press projects and priorities.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manages ISP Open Press initiatives in OER production and publishing, open pedagogy, and research publishing activities.
  • Completes Open Press administrative tasks, including hiring/onboarding new staff.
  • Drafts budget proposals and monitors the Open Press budget.
  • Provides mentorship and supervision to an Open Press Copy Editor and Production Technician, and other staff as assigned.
  • Administratively supports faculty members in establishing working relationships with students connected to Open Press projects.
  • Actively shares knowledge in copy editing, copyright, and open publishing through day-to-day tasks, workshops and presentations to SMEs and Open Press partners.
  • Conducts project post-completion assessments and evaluation.
  • Provides support for TRU\xe2\x80\x99s ISP priorities.
  • Provides operational updates to Open Press partners and Advisory Board.
  • Prepares reports for Open Press partners and Advisory Board.

QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS
  • Master\xe2\x80\x99s degree in a relevant discipline
  • Five years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in publishing management; experience in managing post-secondary publications and open publications will be considered an asset
  • Demonstrated experience in copyediting and copyright audits
  • Demonstrated experience in publishing accessibility standards
  • Knowledge of publishing platforms; knowledge of open publishing platforms will be considered an asset
  • Demonstrated computing skills including all aspects of MS Office Suite; ability to work in WordPress environments will be considered an asset
  • Experience in managing personnel, along with providing leadership, guidance, and direction
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and a sophisticated understanding of what should be communicated to different audiences
  • Ability to adapt and work under pressure with shifting priorities, demands and timelines
