You need to have a positive \'can-do\' attitude, demonstrated skillset, personal and professional drive, a desire to learn and grow, and be flexible, as this is a smaller \'start-up\' that is continuously evolving. Preference will be given to qualified Indigenous applicants. Any applicant must demonstrate knowledge of protocol and cultural teachings or have a strong willingness to learn. Medicine Wheel Publishing is a fast-paced company with many projects on the go. Medicine Wheel publishing is looking for a keen, smart, well-intended individual to join our team. If this speaks to you, we would be happy to hear from you. This position is a publishing intern position. Working along the publishing team in assistant capacity, the publishing intern will assist in development of marketing materials, reaching out to potential authors, sourcing permissions, research, proofreading, etc... See below for more specifics. This position is a 10 month publishing internship that has the possibility of extending to full time employment at the completion of the contract. Job Duties: Publishing Internship Job Duties

  • Assist in the development of marketing materials, campaigns, etc\xe2\x80\xa6including networking with contractors and the publisher to develop effective marketing materials and strategies.
  • Researching a variety of topics.
  • Providing support to authors and helping with author visits in the community.
  • Logistics management including helping with shipping pallets, reviewing inventory numbers, preparing reports, etc\xe2\x80\xa6
  • Administrative duties including performing day to day tasks such as booking conferences, travel arrangements, planning events, logistics, etc\xe2\x80\xa6
  • Offering proofreading of reprints, offering insights into books, etc\xe2\x80\xa6
  • Assisting with social media as required.
  • Other job duties may be assigned from time to time.
Must Have:
  • 3-4 years of higher education (diploma or university) and/or 3-5 years of relevant work experience. Any combination will be considered.
  • Excellent organization skills.
  • Strong multitasking abilities.
  • Excellent written and oral communication.
  • Ability to work well as a team and independently.
  • Be flexible and ability to excel in a fast-paced and changing environment.
  • Must be legally able to work in Canada.

  • Ability to work 30+ hours per week

Knowledge of cultural Indigenous teachings, protocols and stories. Considerations: Qualified Indigenous candidates will be given preference for this position. Job Type: Full time Employment. Three months on probationary period. Benefits: An amazing benefit package including extended health care, dental, mental health days, 2 weeks paid vacation with possibility of increase over time. , etc... Application deadline: 2023-03-13 Expected start date: 2023-04-10 Hours: 30-40 hours per week. Job Type: Permanent Salary: $43,000-47,000 based on a 40 hour workweek.
