Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia is currently searching for a Publication Specialist to join our team in Burnaby!

The Publication Specialist is responsible for overseeing the production of the Innovation magazine and providing content and editorial guidance for eNews. The Publication Specialist also provides staff support to the Editorial Advisory Committee.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

  • Performing the function of Managing Editor for the 40-page bi-monthly magazine, Innovation. Establishing procedures and implementing policies; planning editorial and ensuring content is relevant and topical; researching, writing, and editing articles; initiating, approving, and coordinating editorial; planning and maintaining production schedule; directing and overseeing contributors to produce editorial content; providing direction to external design firm and advertising representative.
  • Providing content and editorial support for the organization\xe2\x80\x99s monthly email newsletter, eNews. Working with the Manager, Digital Communications and Publication Coordinator to establish procedures and implement policies and to plan and maintain the production schedule; researching, writing, and editing articles; initiating, approving, and coordinating editorial.
  • Providing editorial oversight and contributes content to organization publications as required, including providing writing and editing support to other departments.
  • Responding to registrant and public inquiries regarding Innovation magazine.
  • Providing staff support for the Editorial Advisory Group.
  • Participating in events and activities that support Engineers and Geoscientists BC\xe2\x80\x99s communication programs and strategic communications goals as required (e.g., the annual conference).
  • Managing the budget for Innovation and being accountable for managing expenditures within these budget areas. Tracking magazine revenues and seeking new opportunities for revenue growth by working with the advertising representative.
  • Travelling to Engineers and Geoscientists BC\xe2\x80\x99s annual conference and AGM and to events and tradeshows within the Lower Mainland and other areas of the province as required.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.
WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE

The successful applicant will possess the following:
  • Bachelor\'s degree is preferred, ideally in the areas of publishing, editing, journalism, or communications.
  • 6+ years experience in a senior role producing a print publication such as a magazine, journal, or technical publication; experience should include editing, graphic layout, and art direction.
  • 6+ years experience in technical/professional writing and editing.
  • 6+ years experience in photo editing, resizing, and colour correcting (Photoshop preferred).
