THE OPPORTUNITY This is a great opportunity to implement an effective and deficient safety and security program for the FNNND Community. Reporting to the Director of Justice and Governance you will be responsible for the management and delivery of a culturally appropriate Community Security and Safety environment for the First Nation of Nacho Ny-ak Dun Citizens, employees and the general public through providing leadership within an integrated team involving the local police force. You will assist in the development of and oversee the management of the Community Safety Officer program. Your ability to foster positive relationships with Citizens and develop partnerships through liaising and collaborating with agencies who are working with FNNND including Yukon Government, Government of Canada, the RCMP, Village of Mayo and other non-government organizations will be key to your success in this position. THE PERSON The successful candidate will have knowledge and familiarity with community justice philosophies, as well as applicable legislation of the Yukon Government and the Government of Canada. You will enjoy working in the areas of youth justice, adult protection, probations and community wellness. This person has the enthusiasm, patience, empathy and ability to foster positive relationships and partnerships through liaising and collaborating with community agencies. Your demonstrated knowledge of Aboriginal Peoples history with formal justice, residential and child welfare systems and familiarity with FNNND history, culture, goals and aspirations will enhance your ability to deliver effective safety program. QUALIFICATIONS The ideal candidate has a diploma in Criminology, Law/ Aboriginal Justice or equivalent with a minimum of 5 years of successful experience related to criminal and/or restorative justice. Facilitation skills and experience leading meetings, delivering training, and providing access to professional development are essential. Experience working in partnership with other criminal justice agencies, First Nations and the RCMP within a First Nation community is an asset. The candidate must have the ability to exercise and apply good judgement, discretion, confidentiality, tact and diplomacy with patience and empathy when dealing with stressful and emotional situations.
