Latincouver is a non-profit organization that for the past 17 years has been connecting over 100,000 Latin Americans with Latin enthusiasts living in Western Canada. As of today, we are the point of reference within the Latin American community in British Columbia.
About the role:
The Public Relations Coordinator role is an essential part of the Marketing & Communications team of LAHM (Latin American Heritage Month Festival). The volunteer in this position Public Relations Specialist, or Media Relations Specialist, creates and maintains a positive public voice, identity and image for an organization or individual. Their duties include writing and publishing press releases, providing responses to the media's information requests and monitoring public opinions of companies using social media, surveys or polls.
Job Summary and Key Responsibilities
Follow-up & monitor all LAHM publications in media outlets
Plan, develop and implement Public Relations strategies
Contribute toLAHM public relationships
Proactively seek media coverage for newsworthy initiatives
Liaise with colleagues, media, organizations and key spokespeople
Answer to enquiries from media, individuals and organizations
Research, write and distribute press releases to targeted media
Collect and analyze Carnaval del Sol media coverage
Write & edit in-house magazines, case studies, speeches, articles, etc.
Prepare & supervise production of publicity brochures, handouts & mail
Devise and coordinate photo opportunities
Organize events including exhibitions, open days and press tours
Establish and maintain excellent and communication with the Social Media team
Skills & Responsibilities
College diploma or degree in Communications or Public Relations or related field
Ability to work with flexibility, positive energy and commitment
Strong written and verbal communications skills in English
Computer skills (MS Word, PowerPoint, intermediate to advanced Excel, as well as G Suite)
Ability to capture editors' attention
Ability to capture and maintain editors' attention and form relationships
Ability to work independently and with a team to meet deadlines
Exceptional writing research, and interpersonal skills
Previous experience in public relations is an asset
Knowledge in Latin American culture and Spanish or Portuguese are a strong asse
