Working within a multi-disciplinary environment, the Public Health Nurse assesses the need for, plans, organizes, develops, delivers, and evaluates health promotion and protection programs and services to enhance the health of the community.
Within provincially mandated public health program standards, Health Unit policies and procedures and College of Nurses standards, the Public Health Nurse works independently as well as collaboratively with internal colleagues and external partners to deliver services to individuals, families, groups, communities and stakeholders for The City of St. Thomas, Elgin and Oxford County.
iHeal is an evidence-based health promotion project designed to improve the safety, health and well-being of women who have experienced intimate partner violence. It is delivered by Registered Nurses who receive specialized training and work with women over the course of 6 to 7 months. Using a women-led approach, the project addresses each woman's priorities in collaboration with existing community services and the iHeal nursing team.
Under the direction of the Program Manager, Healthy Growth and Development, the successful candidate will offer the iHEAL program according to the iHEAL program principles, components and protocols, conduct relevant health, social and safety assessments, support women to act on their priorities related to their health, safety and well-being through coaching, education, modelling, referral advocacy and related modalities.
