If yes, we are looking to match your interests and skills with our vacancies!The Tuberculosis team requires enthusiastic and self-directed individuals to work within a collaborative team environment, and under medical directives, to deliver services in accordance with the Ontario Public Health Standards for Communicable Disease Control.Team Specific Responsibilities:

  • Investigate reports of active TB disease, latent TB infection and medical surveillance, and complete case and contact management; this includes conducting home visits, contact investigation site visits, dispensing medication, facilitating specimen collection, and administering and reading tuberculin skin tests for contacts
  • Provide education and counselling on TB infection and disease, treatment, health promotion, infection control practices, disease prevention and public health interventions
  • Work collaboratively with Health Outreach Workers to ensure clients are supported throughout their TB treatment to facilitate successful treatment completion
  • Work collaboratively with other health professionals and agencies (e.g. physicians, local hospitals, long term care facilities, labs, shelters, government and community health agencies)
  • Assist supervisor in program development including, but not limited to, developing procedures, work instructions and support materials related to case, contact and outbreak management
  • Utilize a variety of digital technologies to communicate with clients, complete documentation, data entry and required reporting to the Ministry of Health through iPHIS and other relevant reporting systems and platforms
  • You will work closely with clients and their families and are required to work competently and compassionately with individuals of diverse backgrounds so a strong understanding of health equity and the social determinant of health is an asset
  • This position requires work in office and within the community. Staff are required to be in the office a minimum of 2 days/week and up to 5 days/week as needed to fulfill duties such as medication preparation, home and site visits in the community, and participation in the Brampton Civic Hospital TB clinic
  • Home and clinic visits include close interaction with clients with infectious tuberculosis using appropriate PPE. TB skin testing and N95 fit testing are required for the TB program
Team Specific Requirements:
  • One year of Tuberculosis case management (preferred) or 2-3 years of non-COVID communicable disease case management
  • Experience administering and reading TB skin tests is an asset
  • Strong conflict resolution and de-escalation skills
  • Experience developing and delivering health promotion and physician outreach
  • Current BLS is a requirement for Public Health Nurses in the Communicable Diseases Division
  • Regular travel in the community and to clinics across the Region of Peel. Candidate is required to have a G class driver\xe2\x80\x99s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
What you will do in the role:
  • Apply knowledge regarding concepts of population health status, inequities in health, determinants of health, and strategies for health protection and promotion to guide practice
  • Utilize research and evidence and apply critical appraisal skills to inform policies, programs and practice
  • Provide health information, teaching and counselling to clients
  • Use a holistic approach to assess the health status and functional competence of clients with consideration of the impact of the determinants of health
  • Identify and analyze how clients\' culture, attitudes, beliefs and feelings about health influence interventions
  • Establish mutually determined goals with client, including outcome indicators and evaluative measures
  • Facilitate client engagement in identifying and defining health issues using community development and community assessment skills
  • Participate in the planning, developing, implementation and evaluation of community wide and site-specific public health strategies using Evidence Informed Decision Making (EIDM)
  • Advocate for and contribute to the development of healthy public policy
  • Collaborate with partners to identify and address public health issues and service gaps in order to achieve improved health outcomes
  • Develop, foster and facilitate inter-sectoral partnerships and networks using team building, negotiation, conflict management and group facilitation
  • Demonstrate culturally sensitive approaches and strategies with diverse populations
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders
  • Promote awareness of the Region of Peel and Public Health services
  • Participate in research, quality assurance initiatives, and mentor-ship opportunities as appropriate
  • Adhere to public health and nursing ethical standards and principles
  • Fulfill legal and professional obligations and responsibilities in accordance with relevant legislation and departmental policies, procedures and medical directives/acts as an ambassador for the Region of Peel, Public Health Services and Public Health Nursing
  • Perform other duties as assigned which support the organizational goals
  • Respond to public health emergencies, significant events and incidents as required by the Health Protection and Promotion Act and Emergency Standards
What the role requires:
  • A Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or equivalent recognized by a Canadian University
  • Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse by the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Valid G class driver\xe2\x80\x99s license and access to a reliable vehicle

In this role, you\'ll enjoy the flexibility of a hybrid work arrangement. This means you\'ll have the ability to work off-site and on-site as needed, depending on operational needs at the 7120 Hurontario Street, Mississauga worksite and within the community.
