Your Opportunity:

The Supportive Living Facilities Specialist inspects, consults, and provide disease control guidance for non-licensed and some licenced congregate care facilities within Edmonton zone. The Public Health Inspector II works closely with Safe Healthy Environments Zone teams, including the Medical Officer of Health, outbreak coordinators, and congregate care specialists, and with many external partners such as Infection prevention and control, facility operators. Responsibilities include routine inspection of Public Health Act regulated Food Establishments, aquatic facilities, and personal services within assigned facilities, and GI outbreak management on site in conjunction with MOH and assigned Coordinators. The position also undertakes Site Preparation Audits in conjunction with Provincial authorities. This position provides coverages for other specialists as needed, including Licensed facilities.

Description:

As a Public Health Inspector II and appointed Executive Officer under the authority of the Public Health Act, you will be responsible for the delivery of a comprehensive environmental public health program. As a Public Health Inspector II, you will have advanced technical expertise in the areas of public health epidemiology, environmental science and engineering, and scientific research. In addition to the duties required for the enforcement of the Public Health Act, you will act as a zone lead responsible for specialized technical advice and services in one or more of the environmental public health service delivery areas on a zone/provincial basis. You will support individual and community wellness through monitoring inspections, disease surveillance, consultation and enforcement of the Public Health Act and regulations.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Health or in a related field of study plus a recognized Environmental Health technical program. Completion of certificate in Public Health Inspection (Canada). Active Member in Good Standing with the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors (CIPHI). Additional Required Qualifications:

As Required. Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with GI site outbreak protocols, institutional facility plan reviews, IPC standards for Congregate and Supportive Living facilities, and Site Preparation Audits. Experience with leading teams and working in and with complex departments and organizations.
