Your Opportunity:

This position will act as the Land Use specialist in Edmonton zone Rural. They will review all land use applications for the service area using a public health lens for both traditional EPH considerations and Healthy Communities by Design components. The PHI II will be able to read technical reports, identify potential public health issues, and communicate clearly to municipalities. An understanding of contaminated sites and their health impacts on the public is an asset. The Land use Specialist will participate on Provincial committees as appropriate and assist Zone programs upon request for land use related items. In addition, this position may be required to maintain a smaller inspection district to assist with office and program workloads. The PHI II will function as part of the Rural program and Zonal teams to provide coverages for other specialists and coordinators as necessary. This position requires a high degree of organization and use of time management skills to ensure timely responses on complex issues.

Description:

As a Public Health Inspector II and appointed Executive Officer under the authority of the Public Health Act, you will be responsible for the delivery of a comprehensive environmental public health program. As a Public Health Inspector II, you will have advanced technical expertise in the areas of public health epidemiology, environmental science and engineering, and scientific research. In addition to the duties required for the enforcement of the Public Health Act, you will act as a zone lead responsible for specialized technical advice and services in one or more of the environmental public health service delivery areas on a zone/provincial basis. You will support individual and community wellness through monitoring inspections, disease surveillance, consultation and enforcement of the Public Health Act and regulations.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of Bachelor\'s Degree in Environmental Health or in a related field of study plus a recognized Environmental Health technical program. Completion of certificate in Public Health Inspection (Canada). Active Member in Good Standing with the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors (CIPHI). Additional Required Qualifications:

As Required. Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with Environmental Public Health Land use criteria application in urban or suburban environments. Experience with contaminated site referral and response. Comfortable with interagency communication between Provincial and Municipal Government agencies. Experience working within teams in a complex operating environment.
