Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care is a 315-bed academic and teaching hospital that provides specialized mental health, addiction and geriatric care. Located on the shores of Georgian Bay, we serve some of the most complex and disadvantaged individuals in Ontario and are the sole provider of high-secure forensic mental health services in the province.


Directors within the Clinical Services Division are currently seeking a Psychologist. The purpose of the position is to plan, conduct and supervise psychological services in a psychiatric hospital in both the inpatient hospital (regional and forensics) and outpatient settings, and to plan, co-ordinate and provide related research and program evaluation projects, and educational and training services. The successful candidate may be supported in applying for academic appointment(s), commensurate with experience and qualifications (e.g. scheduling modifications/adjustments).


Please Note: This position offers a hybrid work environment consisting of in-office and remote work. The primary office location is 500 Church St in Penetanguishene, ON with some off-site community location presence as needed.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:



Performing clinical duties including screening, planning, and conducting evidence-based assessments including psychopathology, personality, cognitive, neuropsychological screening, diagnosis, or diagnostic clarification Administering, evaluating and interpreting a range of psychological tests and findings Monitoring and revising treatment programs; preparing psychological reports; and providing individual and group therapy sessions. Facilitating patient psychosocial rehabilitation by providing consultations and education to those involved in rehabilitation and reintegration of patients into the community, liaising with other care providers. Providing leadership, consultation and advice to members of the interdisciplinary teams on conducting, developing and evaluating effectiveness of treatment and rehabilitative activities and recommending new approaches to client care. Organizing and conducting research, program evaluation, data-informed decision-making, continuous quality improvement, and professionally relevant projects and scholarly activities Providing professional supervision to psychometrists and those on temporary registrar with the Ontario College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario, and practicum and/or research students. Maintaining confidentiality of patient files and security of testing equipment Making recommendations to the Clinical Manager and/or Director regarding psychology budget requirements and managing allotted psychology budget within established guidelines. Serving on administrative, clinical and community committees Using digital tools for therapy, supervision, and documentation

Additional Duties/Responsibilities Specific to Forensic Psychology:

Conducting evidence-based assessments for the Courts and the Ontario Review Board to address various psycho-legal questions, including but not limited to risk of recidivism, criminal responsibility, and fitness to stand trial. Attending at and providing evidence to the Courts, Ontario Review Board, and tribunals as required. Ensuring all psychological services provided are in keeping with current best practices for the management of forensic psychiatric patients.


REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:



Registration as a Psychologist with the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario with competencies relevant to the position (e.g. Psychologists working in forensics must have competency in clinical and forensic psychology). Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the science and practices of psychology including a full range of psychotherapeutic and assessment techniques to plan, conduct and coordinate psychological services Ability to apply complex treatment techniques and provide consultation and advice on diagnosis and treatment of patients, including CBT and its application for depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, psychosis, in concurrent disorders and complex presentations, and in work with marginalized populations. Ability to independently plan, conduct and oversee the diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitative approaches that best serve the needs of patients within the interdisciplinary team. Experience conducting psychological research, program evaluation, and continuous quality improvement methodologies. Knowledge ofcommunity resources and services to make appropriate referrals and/or to advocate for patient rehabilitation and integration into the community. Experience using computer software and equipment to produce documents, analyze program evaluation, continuous quality improvement and/or data, and produce reports. Demonstrated knowledge of adult education principles and contemporary training approaches Trauma-informed, recovery-oriented, and equity-based care principles, and best practice advocacy skills for professional and systems issues. Excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, leadership abilities and analytical skills. Preference for proficiency in French/English language skills.
