They provide consultations to hospital staff. Psychologists engage in research and program evaluation. Psychologists develop and evaluate new assessment, treatment programs and services to better meet patient needs. Psychologists teach and supervise psychology trainees and other health profession learners. Psychologists utilizes discipline specific skills, knowledge, related clinical experiences and abilities to provide psychological assessments, care planning, direct clinical interventions (individual and group) and consultation to staff on complex cases and psychological issues across all areas. Although most psychologists engage in all of these activities, they differ in the proportion of time allocated to each. The broad percentage ranges below reflect this variability. Mental Health Psychologists work with patients with primarily mental health problems. Geriatric Psychologists work with the elderly with mental health, medical or cognitive problems. Health Psychologists address psychological issues associated with medical disorders or diseases.
