Position Overview



BrightStar Respite is seeking a compassionate and skilled Psychologist to join our team in supporting families navigating the complexities of raising a child with a disability. This role offers the opportunity to make a profound impact while working with diverse families in a flexible, hybrid work environment.

Schedule:

Part-time, maximum 20 hours per week

Work Model:

Hybrid (in-person and virtual sessions)

Service Locations:

Client homes, BrightStar Respite main office (St. Albert), and virtual platforms

About the Role



As a Psychologist with BrightStar Respite, you will provide essential mental health support to families with children who have disabilities. You'll work with complex family dynamics, cultural diversity, and varying levels of need while collaborating with our multidisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive care.

Key Responsibilities



? Provide individual, family, and group therapy services

? Conduct psychological assessments and develop treatment plans

? Support families in coping with the emotional challenges of raising a child with a

disability

? Facilitate group therapy sessions for parents, caregivers, and siblings

? Work sensitively with families from diverse cultural, ethnic, and socioeconomic

backgrounds

? Participate in multidisciplinary service team meetings (once every 2 months)

? Collaborate with team members including family doctors, nurses, educational assistants,

teachers, speech-language pathologists, behavioural therapists, and respite support

aides

? Maintain accurate clinical documentation and progress notes

? Provide crisis intervention and support as needed

? Adapt therapeutic approaches to meet the unique needs of each family

Compensation & Benefits



Probationary Period:

90 days

Benefits (after successful completion of probation):

Required Qualifications



Education & Registration:



? Master's degree in Counselling Psychology or equivalent

? Registered Psychologist OR Provisional Psychologist (with external supervision) in good standing with the College of Alberta Psychologists

Clinical Skills:



? Solid grounding in evidence-based therapeutic modalities (CBT, EMDR, ACT, etc.)

? Experience providing individual, family, and group therapy

? Available for in-person sessions when required

Background Checks:



? Clear Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector screening

? Clear Child Intervention Record Check

? Valid CPR and First Aid certification

Skills & Experience:



? Strong interpersonal and organizational skills

? Cultural sensitivity and demonstrated experience working with diverse populations

? Experience working with families affected by disability preferred

? Proficiency with documentation software and virtual therapy platforms

? Familiarity with Jane App is an asset
