Our Mental Health & Addictions Program strives to deliver exceptional patient experience, excellent patient access, and engaged staff.Reporting to the Clinical Manager, you will work with our multidisciplinary inpatient and outpatient teams (i.e. Preschool Diagnostic and Treatment Services, Child and Adolescent Inpatient Mental Health Program, Young Adult Program and outpatient psychiatry clinic) with children and youth ages 2-21 years.Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Will evaluate and diagnose (within area of practice) psychological disorders, including mental health conditions, cognitive functioning, and personality disorders
  • Review complex and convergent data from multiple sources
  • Plan, administer and interpret psychological tests appropriate to the referral question
  • Prepare written clinical assessment summaries and/or assessment reports of psychometric findings and diagnostic conclusions in order to provide feedback of the assessment activities
  • Will be actively involved in patient and/or family education initiatives aimed at enhancing, coping and reducing distress for the relevant authorized client population
  • Will participate in evaluation and selection of applicants for student practicums; and will have skills and experience in clinical teaching and education
  • Provides a variety of therapeutic treatment approaches (ie. individual, families, and group interventions) directed toward the maintenance and enhancement of physical, intellectual, emotional, social and interpersonal functioning
  • Provide clinical supervision and training for student practica and/or non-regulated psychology staff (ie. psychometrists) and maintain clinical accountability in the provision of psychological services, in accordance with any/all relevant ethical, professional, and supervision guidelines of the Canadian Psychological Association and the College of Psychologists of Ontario
  • Will work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team along with other health care providers, community service and school board providers
  • May be required to participate in clinical research design and advise regarding research/evaluation design, statistical data analysis, methodology; and research design
  • Contributes to ensuring there is a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors.
At Grand River Hospital, our Psychologist:
  • Psychologist: Successful completion of graduate education, minimum Masters level degree in Psychology (ie. M.A., M.Sc., M.Ps., M.Ed.), with four years of experience working in the scope of practice of psychology, registration in good standing with the College of Psychologists of Ontario and also registration as a Psychologist in other recognized Canadian jurisdictions (ie. Association of Psychology of Newfoundland and Labrador, etc.); OR successful completion of a Doctoral level degree in Psychology (Ph.D., Psy.D., Ed.D., D.Psy.) with a one-year internship; and registration in good standing with the College of Psychologists of Ontario
  • Psychological Associate: Successful completion of graduate education, minimum Masters level degree in psychology (ie. M.A., M.Sc., M.Ps., M.Ed.), with four years of experience working in the scope of practice of psychology, registration in good standing with the College of Psychologists of Ontario
  • Minimum 2 years clinical experience with psychological assessment and diagnosis of children and youth (up to and including age 21) within an acute care hospital based service setting. Psychological assessment experience with young children (ages 3-6) is an asset.
  • Will have and maintain competence in administering, scoring, and interpreting (including selection, and interpreting standardized and non-standardized testing instruments, as well as perceptive behavioural and/or test setting observations) a wide range of testing instruments
  • Will have and maintain competence in providing a variety of therapeutic treatment approaches (ie. individual, families, and group interventions) directed toward the maintenance and enhancement of physical, intellectual, emotional, social and interpersonal functioning
  • Will have demonstrated interpersonal and supervisory skills to provide clinical supervision and training for student practica and/or non-regulated psychology staff (ie. psychometrists) and maintains clinical accountability in the provision of psychological services, in accordance with any/all relevant ethical, professional, and supervision guidelines of the Canadian Psychological Association and the College of Psychologists of Ontario
  • Will have demonstrated proven ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team along with other health care providers, community service and school board providers
  • Will have demonstrated knowledge and proficiency in clinical research design and advises regarding research/evaluation design, statistical data analysis, methodology; and research design, as required
  • Will have demonstrated proficiency in administering and interpreting autism-specific measures such as the ADOS-2 (primarily Modules 1-3) and ADIR. Neuropsychological testing experience is preferred
  • Will participate in team building, service committees, service development and quality improvement activities striving to contribute to a healthy workplace environment, as required
  • Excellent organizational, prioritization and problem-solving abilities
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated understanding and commitment to Grand River Hospital Mental Health & Addiction Program recovery philosophy and comprehensive safety programs
  • Good attendance record
