Your Opportunity:
Work within the Child, Youth and Families portfolio providing psychology services for youth with complex, multi-dimensional medical, psychological, interpersonal, environmental, and/or instrumental needs, based out of Unit 39. This role includes advanced clinical services (psychological assessment, diagnosis, and/or intervention), consultation, and education for the inter-professional team and patients/families. The position leads treatment planning and care coordination for the short-stay unit. This is a fast-paced environment with opportunities for innovation, creativity, and strong team collaboration. Unit 39 is a dedicated inpatient unit specializing in care for children and adolescents facing acute psychiatric challenges. Our interdisciplinary team works collaboratively to provide compassionate, evidence-based care supporting youth and families through mental health crises. Utilize formal and informal assessment methods, protocols, and objectives; formulate treatment plans in line with ethical and professional standards to inform diagnosis and treatment. Administer, score, and interpret psychological tests for patients and families to support diagnosis and guide planning. Perform psychological interventions, including restricted psychosocial interventions, using varied theoretical orientations for targeted goals; adapt to individual needs. Collaborate with and refer to health providers and community resources as needed. Develop/facilitate psychoeducational sessions with individuals, families, or groups. Maintain appropriate records per AHS/program and regulatory college standards.
Description:
As a Psychologist I, you will work with or within teams to provide a range of standard level psychology services to patients and their families within the established standards, directives, and policies for the work environment. Your services may include psychological screening and/or assessment, diagnosis, interventions, rehabilitation, prevention and promotion, as well as educational activities. You will collaborate with the multi-disciplinary team of healthcare professionals in planning and implementing services that align with best practices and ethical and professional standards. You will provide input to the interprofessional team related to psychological factors, barriers and dynamics that influence client treatment planning, participation, outcomes and team functioning, and consult and collaborate with teams and community services. Your duties may also include providing supervision to psychometrists, provisional psychologists and/or masters level psychology students, and providing input into program, policy and/or procedure development in addition to participating in formal research initiatives.

Required Qualifications:

Master's degree in Psychology in an applied area relevant to the practice setting from an accredited university program. Active or eligible for registration with the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Psychological services, including risk assessment, formal assessment, individual therapy and development and facilitation of educational/psychoeducational and psychotherapy groups. Experience in administration and interpretation of assessment tools and writing of a formal assessment report. Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and clinical skills (individual, family, assessment and group). Must be coupled with the ability to be self-directed, highly motivated and work effectively within a team environment. A strong working relationship and ability to collaborate with the program Psychiatrists will be required for this position. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working in an inpatient program is considered an asset. Strong technological skills considered an asset regarding the use of psychological assessment programs, Microsoft Suite, and AHS internal software.
