The Psychologist reports to the Associate Dean, Student Life. The priority of the Psychologist is to provide expert insight and guidance to the Associate Dean and senior administration on the development, growth, and sustainability of student mental health supports. To this end, this position will be involved in strategic planning for mental health and wellness initiatives for Northwestern Polytechnic. This position will also provide personal counselling and crisis/risk management to students on a frequent basis and manage the Mental Health Services teams including Mental Health Counsellors and Coordinators based on both Grande Prairie and Fairview Campus. Working collaboratively within the School of Students and with Deans and Chairs, this position will ensure NWP is proactive in providing professional mental health services support, and programs to students. Some travel to Fairview campus and some weekend or evening work may be required to accommodate student schedules and/or occasional student events.Specifically, this position will:

  • Provide expert and timely mental health services to NWP students.
  • Provide preventative and educational mental health programming to students and staff.
  • Provide a variety of mental health and academic diagnostic testing services to reduce the risks to student health and
  • provide the student with options to be successful.
  • Liaise with other mental health care providers in NWP\'s stewardship region.
  • Participate hands-on in applying for government grants, such as writing grant proposals to supplement and support mental health for students;
  • implement programs/endeavors as the result of successful grant proposals.

Consider joining Canada\'s newest polytechnic, committed to be the most entrepreneurial polytechnic by 2034.Job RequirementsThe successful candidate must have a Master\'s in Psychology with completion of graduate-level studies in either Clinical Psychology or Counselling Psychology, and must be a registered Psychologist in good standing with the College of Alberta Psychologists. The successful candidate will have 5 years of previous related job experience. Necessary skills and attributes to be successful in this role include:
  • Experience with electronic medical records systems (EMRs) an asset.
  • Current Violent Threat Risk Assessment (VTRA) training is considered an asset;
  • Experience with proposal writing for funding grants and report writing.
  • Experience working with young adults;
  • Management experiences an asset;
  • Proven leadership and mentoring skills;
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with students, faculty, support staff and community members;
  • Confidence in dealing with crisis and affected individuals;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills;
  • A high level of integrity, professionalism and accountability;
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem solving skills;
  • Ability to collaborate with teams and stakeholders on projects;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications and the ability to adapt quickly to technology;
  • Willingness to work non-traditional hours when required; and
  • Experience in developing virtual relationships.
  • Class 5 Driver\'s License required
