Job Description


**This posting is for one (1) full-time temporary position ending on or before February 01st, 2025**The Edmonton Police Service requires one (1) highly organized and competent Property Technician to work in The Drug Exhibit Unit. This individual will also provide support to the Cash Processing Centre as required. The major responsibilities of this position involve:

  • Operating in high security areas, members in this position are responsible for ensuring accountability, accuracy, security and safe handling of all drug and cash related exhibits submitted as evidence to the Property & Exhibit Unit, Drug Exhibit Unit and Cash Processing Centre.
  • Taking in, categorization, location, protection, care and disposition of court relevant exhibits and property which requires strict adherence to policies and procedures, as well as the efficient entry and removal of data from various databases.
  • Receive, process, store, research, prepare and dispose of drug exhibits in accordance with internal and Federal policies/regulations.
  • Use of cash and coin counting equipment is necessary
  • Liaise with a number of internal and external stakeholders including various Federal Government departments.
  • Safe operation of 1-ton cube van, \xc2\xbd ton truck, or any other Class 5 vehicle to facilitate the retrieval and transport of property.
  • Providing customer service to police members, owners, finder, and claimants.
  • Safe use and operation of small power hand tools, metal shearing machine, and forklift/reach truck
  • Completing special assignments as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Completion of a two (2) year Post Secondary program in a related discipline such as Law Enforcement or Criminology.
  • A minimum of four (4) years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in a stores (warehouse) operation.
  • Applicant must be able to qualify for appointment to Community Peace Officer Status.
  • Experience using Microsoft Windows, Excel, Access, Outlook, and other applicable software.
  • Experience with evidence, drugs, cash, and cash handling procedures would be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge and ability to competently perform all the noted major responsibilities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing and prepare and maintain a wide variety of documentation, reports and files related to assigned cases.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with employees and other law enforcement agencies.
  • A firearms safety course or related training would be considered an asset.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, including lifting and moving property weighing up to 35 kg.
  • Must possess a valid Class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator\'s License.
  • The ability to safely operate a 1-ton cube van, \xc2\xbd ton truck or any other Class 5 vehicle.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • The proven ability to provide superior customer service, handle several tasks simultaneously and remain calm under pressure.
  • If granted an interview, the candidate must bring a current driver\'s abstract.
  • Applicants may be tested.
  • The successful applicant will be required to use CSA approved footwear while performing their duties.
  • The successful applicant must possess forklift/reach truck certification, or able to obtain within one year of employment.
  • Required to possess current PAL (Possession and Acquisitions License - restricted and unrestricted).
  • As part of your pre-hire screening, you will be required to complete an Enhanced Security Clearance. Should you accept employment with the Edmonton Police Service you acknowledge and agree to participate in future Enhanced Security Re-Clearances at scheduled intervals or in any other circumstances, exigent or otherwise, as required by Human Resources Division.
Hours of Work: 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday. Hours of work are 0700-1530-hrs (Note: There is an expectation to work outside of the work hours outlined and be available for standby service as required).Salary Range: 21B, Salary Grade: 017, $32.424 - $40.727 (Hourly), $2,593.90 - $3,258.20(Bi-Weekly), $67,701 - $85,037 (Annually).
