Job Description

We are excited to announce a new opportunity at Mainroad East Kootenay Contracting LP (MEK) for a Project Technician. This full-time position, based in our Cranbrook office, reports directly to the Operations Manager.





Mainroad East Kootenay Contracting has been a trusted provider of highway maintenance services in the region since 2001. Our service area spans the eastern side of Kootenay Lake to the US border in the south, the Alberta border to the east, and up to the roundabout at Radium Hot Springs in the north. Our East Kootenay Service Area covers 3,673 lane kilometers, 106 bridges (including seven bridge-size culverts), 45 retaining walls, 4,100 culverts, four tunnels, 11,000 signs, and 11 rest areas.



The successful candidate shall have the following qualifications:




Minimum 2 years in highway maintenance, construction, or related experience; Completion of a post-secondary degree or diploma in civil engineering is considered an asset; Valid Class 5 Drivers License; Prior project management experience working on various jobs (highway maintenance and/or construction);oStrong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook), and Microsoft Project; Excellent verbal and written communication skills; Superior problem solving and negotiating skills; Ability to establish a good working relationship with many different people, including owners, other managers, subcontractors, designers, supervisors, and trades people; Organization skills, and ability to multi-task and prioritize different projects; Ability to solve problems and make critical decisions.

Job duties include, but are not limited to the following:




Conduct Bridge Inspections as required under the Highway Maintenance Agreement. Supervise and direct all field personnel assigned to projects under your control.
Ensure the accuracy of the Bridge Highway Maintenance Plans, including costing, reporting, and delivery.
Conduct regular project inspections and maintain quality control standards. Provide technical and contract support to the Maintenance Division as needed. Recommend improvements to enhance cost-effectiveness and operational efficiency within maintenance operations. Evaluate the performance and effectiveness of subcontractors on maintenance contracts. Prepare basic estimates and oversee tendered projects as required. Obtain supplier quotes, manage material orders, and coordinate necessary subcontracts. Regularly review project schedules and costs to ensure they stay on track and take immediate corrective actions as needed.
