Description:
We are seeking a Facilities Maintenance Superintendent to join our ATCO Facilities Solutions team in Yellowknife, NT. The Superintendent provides leadership, plans, organizes, coordinates, and oversees staff activities and projects by applying well-developed skills and experience in maintenance, construction and general business operations. The Superintendent oversees between 5 - 15 staff of various trades and skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Adheres to safety requirements and ensures all direct reports meet safety expectations.
  • Manages preparations for assigned projects/contracts from start to finish (RFP analysis and evaluation, proposal preparation and submission, project/contract negotiation, project implementation/mobilization, risk mitigation, sub-contract awards, contract administration, and project demobilization) according to schedules, specifications, and budgets.
  • Establishes work plans and staffing levels for each phase of a project/contract including scheduling, recruiting or assigning of project personnel, delegation of work, and review of work efforts to ensure the project/contract meets technical specifications, timings and client statement of works and expectations.
  • Monitors project/contract milestones, technical status, critical dates, potential risks, and implements appropriate actions to resolve issues.
  • Chairs kick off meetings and progress meetings to communicate and coordinate individual roles and tasks, project expectations, and resources and prepares project/contract reports and presentations for management, client, or others.
  • Works closely with other company teams in Yellowknife and Calgary to ensure client satisfaction.
  • Participates and completes as necessary accident/incident reports and investigations.
  • Must be able to handle emergencies and be aware of hazardous situations.
  • Participates & contributes to task specific safety, planning and organizational meetings to discuss schedule and staffing equipment issues.
  • Completes reports and time allocation as required.
  • Reports all safety incidents to leadership and completes all investigation of incidents which occur on his/her watch.
  • Establishes methods to meet work schedules and co-ordinates work activities with other departments.
  • Resolves work problems and implements measures to improve productivity.
  • Recommends and implements personnel actions such as discipline.
  • Ensures all safe working policies and procedures for equipment and personnel are followed and necessary permits are in place, current and followed.
  • Resolves where possible client issues related to the work.
  • Ensures regular inspection of rigging, equipment, work areas, lifting equipment and documents such inspection.
  • Keeps and maintains a current and up to date shift log of key safety, operational and disciplinary events during each shift.
  • Train staff as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • At least 5-7 years' experience in Operations and Project Management.
  • The successful candidate should hold either a Red Seal trade certification or project management certification. A mix of education and experience may be considered.
  • Strong background and work experience in facility maintenance and operations.
  • Excellent computer skills and proficient in excel, word, outlook, and the Microsoft suite of software.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Knowledge of government contract management, Knowledge and experience in organizational effectiveness and operations management implementing best practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative management style.
  • Demonstrated Budget development and oversight experience.
  • A demonstrated commitment to high professional ethical standards and a diverse workplace.
  • Excels at operating in a fast pace, team environment.
  • Excellent people manager, open to direction, Collaborative work style and commitment to get the job done.
  • Ability to challenge and debate issues of importance to the organization.
  • Ability and willingness to consider at situations from several points of view.
  • Persuasive with details and facts.
  • Delegate responsibilities effectively.
