Position Overview

The Project Manager Sustainability Projects is to work on engineering project assignments of a complex nature by performing diverse civil/mechanical electrical engineering work and exercising great latitude of independent judgment. The Project Manager will enjoy a high degree of supervision and coordination on projects in hand and adhere to budget responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)


  • Coordinate the strategy for and develop new tasks to be performed in operational interest related to a newly implement sustainability project.
  • Determine the scope of work, evaluate proposals, and participate in the selection of contractors
  • Assist in negotiating contracts and administering procurement of contract agreements
  • Oversee contracts during the course of the work to ensure compliance with the proposed design, material specifications, and schedules
  • Review contractors' work and recommend action as appropriate
  • Perform project design work including researching data, conducting feasibility and economic studies, and determining design criteria in accordance with required standards
  • Prepare project documents including project justifications, budget analyses, calculations, plans, specifications, cost estimates, and schedules for assigned facility projects
  • Review and check engineering drawings, plans, calculations, estimates, and reports for completeness and accuracy
  • Ensure that all projects are designed to meet current health & safety/environmental/quality standards, as a minimum. Wherever possible, projects should be designed to go beyond compliance taking into account technological and economic feasibility
  • Determine the scope of work, prepare requests for proposals, evaluate proposals, and participate in the selection of consultants for utility projects
  • Assist in negotiating consultant contracts, administer the procurement of contract agreements and administer contracts during the course of the work to ensure compliance with the proposed design, material specifications, budget, contract, and schedules
  • Review consultants’ submitted work products and recommend adjustments as appropriate
  • Implement the use of new technologies, cost-saving techniques/materials, improved safety procedures, and least disruptive utility construction practices
  • Ensure quality control by taking responsibility for schedule coordination and evaluating, recommending, and preparing contract change orders as necessary
  • Prepare cost estimates for the planned work and control capital spending and timelines
  • Coordinate structural, mechanical, and electrical designs
  • Oversee preparation and implementation of capital expenditure budget and focus on defined key performance indicators (KPIs)
  • Maintain, organize, prepare, review and revise drawings as required
  • Obtain certification and conformance to current government regulations for new and modified structures
  • Evaluate and implement solutions to resolve ongoing mechanical, electrical, civil, operation, and technical problems within the cement plant
  • Evaluate professional environmental and safety recommendations and develop engineering solutions to correct deficiencies
  • Work with Director Technical Services, process engineering, and maintenance personnel to implement projects, either on their behalf, jointly, or in an advisory role, depending on the project
  • Provide comprehensive technical assistance to optimize plant equipment performance and utilize technical expertise to continuously determine, evaluate and improve equipment/system performance
  • Participate in any management-endorsed cross-functional teams related to improving plant safety, environmental performance, and productivity

  • Ensure that the plant works safely and eliminates work-related risks by increased use of hazard recognition techniques
  • Promote the safety of standard operating procedures and a safe working environment for all employees and contractors at the plant
  • Support and assist with the achievement of total project and plant safety goals

Environment

  • ISO 14001 internal audit
  • Comply with environmental regulations and CRH’s sustainable development objectives
  • Support and assist with achievement of total project and plant environmental goals

Qualifications

Education/Experience
  • Engineering Degree in Industrial, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical or Chemical Engineering with a focus on Project Management.
  • Substantial experience within a cement plant or related industry.

Knowledge/Skill Requirements
  • Comprehensive computer software knowledge (AutoCAD, Microsoft Project, SAP) is required. An understanding of Statistical Process Control is also required.

Core Competencies
  • Proficient computer skills, specifically with applications such as SAP, AutoCAD and Microsoft Project
  • Perform computerized mapping, computer aided drafting and network modeling
  • Solid technical knowledge of manufacturing systems, processes, operations and project management skills
  • Knowledge of civil and/or other engineering principles and techniques related to specific projects
  • Knowledge of maintenance engineering principles and techniques
  • Apply sound engineering principles to both operational and design issues
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Strong leadership and people management skills
  • Ability to control economic aspects of Engineering projects; asses and monitor costs
  • Ability to work with many departments, governmental bodies and outside resources
  • Effective written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Organize and write effective technical reports and communicate effectively with high level of technical skill
  • Ability to clearly convey technical information in non-technical terms
  • Ability to negotiate contracts
  • Solid decision-making skills

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • This position may require some lifting of objects no heavier than twenty pounds (20lbs.)
  • This is sedentary in nature but may require occasional periods of standing and walking

Work Environment

  • This position is based across the cement plant
