Work Description

The Giant Mine project is valued at over $4B and will be the largest remediation undertaking in Canadian history. The Project Manager for the Giant Mine Surface Care & Maintenance (SCM) activities leads a team of planners, technicians, constructors, and tradespeople who are responsible for maintaining all surface mining facilities, buildings, roads, and related infrastructure during the concurrent remediation activities carried out at the site. This mandate includes providing an enabling role to the Main Construction Manager and completing work packages to support the various remediation activities being completed at the site. The SCM Project Manager is responsible for ensuring all project activities are delivered safely and within the cost, quality, and schedule requirements of the contract. The Project Manager mentors a staff of over 20 people for professional growth, quality performance, and worker safety.
Responsibilities

  • Overall leadership and coordination of over 20 technical and trades personnel carrying out the surface care & maintenance activities at the Giant Mine
  • Interacting with a positive, can-do attitude with the client team and other contractors operating at the Giant Mine, responding to requests with actionable solutions, and maintaining regular communications to ensure the project is operating in a surprise-free environment at all times
  • Preparing the execution plans with method statements, critical path construction schedule, cost estimate, and other planning elements (safety, quality, etc.) to ensure additional work packages are carried out to the satisfaction of the client
  • Initiating work packages by establishing the team and quickly normalizing operations, and directing project activities
  • Liaising between the superintendent, planner, surveyor, safety, project controls, environmental, administrative, and senior management team
  • Leading the procurement coordinator for the supply chain management activities related to subcontracts and material purchases
  • Leading the project controls system for scope, schedule, and cost control
  • Developing monthly progress claims and tracking progress payments
  • Overseeing the scope, quality, and change management through the generation of shop drawings, RFI\xe2\x80\x99s, Field Instructions, Inspection & Test Plans, and change requests, among other documents
  • Managing the Indigenous Participation Plan implementation, performance reporting, and liaising with Indigenous stakeholders
  • Initiating project reviews during and at project close-out and documenting lessons learned and actual performance against planned targets
Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in civil engineering or related earth sciences program, or diploma in engineering technology or project/construction management
  • Minimum of 10 years experience in mining, construction, or facilities maintenance
  • Experience in the environmental sectors (preferred)
  • Proficient in software applications, including Microsoft Office suite, Microsoft Project/Primavera
