At SMS Equipment, our Project Manager \xe2\x80\x93 Facility Projects & Improvements is responsible for all aspects of project management for branch renovations, new builds, and capital expenditures and improvement requirements for SMS Equipment Facilities across Canada and Alaska. This position is in Acheson, AB.

This position is from Monday \xe2\x80\x93 Friday.

The salary range for this position is $100,000 - $110,000 plus incentives.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Plan, manage and coordinate new builds, major renovations, or capital improvement investments.
  • Prepare requests for proposals and conduct all necessary meetings to facilitate hiring architectural, consultants and construction management services.
  • Coordinate with Operational leaders and the Finance department to facilitate facility planning, budgeting, new facility design and business plans.
  • Function as the company representative, manage and support the external contractors, consultants, engineers, etc., to plan and implement the company\xe2\x80\x99s scope and mandate.
  • Monitor and report on all phases of planning and construction as well as manage and monitor project documentation related to permitting in the designated municipality, county, or city to ensure compliance with local, provincial, and federal regulations.
  • Review contract plans and specifications for compliance with appropriate building codes and project requirements.
  • Coordinate and engage with internal stakeholders to capture facility requirements and coordinate with facility occupants for the purpose of moving-in to new or renovated facilities.
  • Create and manage corporate exit strategies when facilities are at end of use, ensure companies interests are protected.
  • Develop conceptual plans and high-level budgets for corporate facilities projects to support fiscal decision-making.
  • Manage, and monitor construction contracts, their execution and distribution, including all change management.
  • Support lease renewals and temporary staff housing and residential facilities.
  • Support the execution of property appraisals and work with realtors to secure property.
  • Support the environmental efficiency upgrades of existing facilities and focus on green building initiatives for new construction.
  • Assist in development of new standards of practice for Project Management activities.
  • Provide weekly project status updates identifying schedule and cost variance, planned value, actual cost.
  • Prepare detailed professional presentations for senior management.
Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have a minimum of 5 years experience in facilities constructions or building experience. Experience in General Contractor project management is preferred. Additional qualifications include:
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans & specifications.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of all phases and processes for facilities construction.
  • Knowledge of laws governing construction contracts and contracting.
  • Ability to lead without direct authority to larger project team.
  • Strong reporting skills with an emphasis on detail.
  • Sound understanding of Building Codes, Development Permits, Building Permits, and standards of practice.
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety laws and regulations.
  • Bilingualism in French and English is considered an asset.
  • PMI Project Management Education and/or PMP Designation is considered an asset.
  • Building Energy Efficiency knowledge and Education or LEED Certification is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge and experience in Commercial / Industrial Leases and Real-Estate is considered an asset.
  • CAD experience is considered an asset.
