Summary:
Under the direction of the Director of Operations, the Project Manager is accountable for planning, organizing, directing, controlling, and evaluating all operations of a specific contracted project or scope of work assigned of the Fort McKay Group of Companies and, specifically, the Fort McKay Graham JV (FMGJV). The incumbent is to conduct all activities in a manner that supports the missions, vision, and values of the Fort McKay Group of Companies LP (FMGOC).
This is a safety-sensitive position that requires completion of pre-employment testing.
Key Focus:

  • Providing clear expectations to the Superintendents, to ensure the delivery of support and services to the client operations.
  • Working in collaboration with the JV Operations Manager to ensure adherence to FMGOC/FMGJV programs and policies, as well as the safety policies of our clients.
  • Creating/developing the project schedule and own the schedule by driving accountability to your direct reports.
  • Organizing and lead efforts to investigate, identify, and implement solutions related to process issues, customer quality issues, process improvements, productivity issues, and any other variances within the scope of work or position.
  • Managing the direct and indirect costs, ensuring that the support provided meets the clients' operational objectives by reviewing labour requirements, schedules, and reports on a regular basis.
  • Communicating with procurement to ensure all project materials are ordered with enough lead time to minimize supply chain impact.
  • Assisting superintendents with employee relations concerns and coordinating with Human Resources.
  • Maintaining strong relationships with the client, contractors, suppliers, to ensure the owner needs are met and to secure future business opportunities.
  • Mentoring/guiding/coaching direct reports to ensure adherence to established processes, providing support and assistance to direct reports.
  • Participating in Field Level Risk Assessments (FLRA) as part of the daily operations, making recommendations and adjustments.
  • Troubleshooting project issues in the field, and any constructability issues regarding engineering, execution, material shortages, etc.
  • Reviewing and monitoring daily/weekly/monthly operations documentation and reports, to ensure that company, client, and regulatory requirements are met.
  • Assisting HSE with all matters pertaining to safety, as well as human resources with all matters related to conducting interviews, discipline, hiring, and termination.
  • Shift schedule: 7 days on, 7 days off; 12hour shifts.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
  • Completion of a High School Diploma, or a GED equivalent is required.
  • A valid Class 5 License (or equivalent) is required, along with a satisfactory 3-year Drivers Abstract.
  • Post-secondary technical diploma (CET/RET) or Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering is required.
  • Valid CSTS & OSSA/ CSO/ BSO training is required.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience with large and dynamic operations in Heavy Civil, Mining, Earthworks, or Pipeline scopes is required.
  • Knowledge in MS Office, specifically Word, Excel, and Outlook is required.
  • Strong ability to analyze problems, identify multiple solutions, consequences of proposed actions, and implement recommendations.
  • Ability to write reports and correspondence and speak effectively to a group of employees or clients.
  • Effective communicator and interpersonal skills, including excellent oral, written communication, and listening skills
This is a full time position located north of Fort McMurray, AB on Kearl Lake site.
