JOB SUMMARYThe PHAI is a federal initiative to clean-up low-level radioactive waste in Port Hope and Clarington. The project involves remediating contaminated sites and consolidating the wastes in an engineered mound in the community. The PHAI Project has a very high public profile and is a top priority for the Government of Canada and the Port Hope area communities.The Project Lead, Field (Lead) is accountable for the delivery of remediation and restoration projects in varying scales of scopes and complexity. The projects range in duration, up to multi-year involving rigorous safety and regulatory requirements, challenging internal/external interactions and contract execution oversight of field activities. The Lead will oversee multiple simultaneous work packages and numerous CNL/contractor resources that involve substantial financial commitments (exceeding $50 million annually).In conjunction with oversight responsibilities, the Lead will review remediation/restoration designs and associated work packages for the primary purpose of evaluating constructability in advance of, and during project execution. The Lead will also support the Projects team in the identification and monitoring key performance indices (KPIs) developed by Projects to assess ongoing contractor performance.The Lead will provide a vital communication link between field personnel and the Construction Manager, assisting in the tracking of training requirements, mentoring and individual performance evaluation.RESPONSIBILITIES:Project Delivery:

  • Plan, organize, lead and control the integration of all work areas and disciplines within the project effectively.
  • Implement project management tools, methods, and best practices to plan and manage projects in a way that aligns with the expectations of stakeholders and meets business needs.
  • Ensure all designs and work plans incorporate safety, quality, health, and the environment.
  • Manage changes in scope, schedule, costs and impacts to stakeholders against the project baseline.
  • Identify project risks and barriers; develop corresponding mitigation strategies.
  • Report and regularly interface with management and stakeholders regarding project status updates and expectations
  • Determine project priorities and the division of responsibilities
  • Understand contract and procurement strategies including terms and conditions, work package delivery and resource integration.
Team Management:
  • Accountable for leading a team of CNL staff in the oversight of contractors and consultants for the remediation and restoration of LLRW impacted site.
  • Promotes a positive and inclusive work environment.
  • Motivates construction partners (CNL and contractor teams) to deliver quality results on time and on budget.
  • Defines roles/responsibilities and set goals. Manages performance of team members by establishing objectives and providing regular feedback.
  • Mentors, coaches, and instructs team members in the pursuit of project, team and individual success.
  • Ensures all team members adhere to safe work policies/practices, radiation protection policies/practices and any other CNL safety requirements that protect workers.
Stakeholder Management:
  • Exercise strong interpersonal skills with stakeholders, demonstrating informed communication, sound ethics, and integrity.
  • Lead an integrated team approach including technical direction, stakeholder considerations, communication plans and internal/external resources.
  • Collaborate with the Communications & Stakeholder Relations team; participate in public relations events as needed.
What we are looking for:ABILITIES AND SKILLS:
  • Strong project management skills including planning, budgeting, resourcing, contract management, and progress reporting for a management audience.
  • Application all of the 9 project management subject areas (Scope, Cost, Time, QA, Communications, Human Resources, Risk, Procurement, Integration)
  • Excellent team building and consensus reaching skills.
EXPERIENCE:
  • 5+ years project experience, preferably related to large construction and/or remediation projects.
  • Supervision/oversight of contractors, consulting engineers, and vendors in the field execution of construction projects.
  • Experience with project management software, tools and practices used to plan, execute and control projects.
EDUCATION:A degree or diploma from a college/university relevant to construction project management, civil, geotechnical, chemical or mechanical engineering, or equivalent, and direct experience in construction project life-cycle from inception to execution.SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:Security clearance eligibility required: Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom.Why CNL?Does working with a team across Canada to advance nuclear science and technology for a clean and secure world speak to you?
