Project Financial Analyst

Job Description

Our client is looking for a Senior Project Financial Analyst for a 6-month contract with potential to convert to full-time employee role. Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
Remote work within Canada is acceptable.

Role Summary

The Senior Project Financial Analyst will report to the Project Executive and be responsible to support timely and accurate project financial management, analysis, and reporting for the project and related division projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supports project financial management, analysis, and reporting for key stakeholders including Executive, Account Leadership, Project Leadership, and Finance
  • Maintains PMO project financial management tool for assigned projects in a timely and accurate manner:
  • Monthly updates of employee and contractor labour time data from time reporting and approval tool (Replicon)
  • Tracks and records other costs including project purchases, subcontractor invoices, travel expenses reports
  • Works closely with project leadership to ensure complete and accurate forecast of future project labour and other costs
  • Maintains project cost parameters as required (e.g., adding/removing resources, hourly cost rates)
  • Prepares project financial information to support client and project and internal status reporting
  • Analyzes and reports project financial metrics such as earned value, budget and schedule variance and notifies stakeholders of issues and trends as appropriate
  • Reports updated project financial information to Finance monthly to support cost accruals, cashflow reporting, and revenue recognition
  • Monitors project financial commitments (both incurred and actual costs) and works with Finance to ensure project costs are tracked appropriately in Sage and reconcile any discrepancies
  • Utilizes standard PMO tools, methodologies, and templates to manage and document all aspects of assigned projects
  • Other duties and projects as assigned
Experience and Skill Requirements
  • Five or more (5+) years of project financial management and analysis experience
  • Strong understanding of project financial management fundamentals and best practices
  • Experience in supporting large ($10+ million), fixed price projects in a professional services environment
  • Exceptional MS Excel skills to analyze and interpret complex data and manage financial models
  • Quality focused with acute attention to detail
  • A self-starter, able to work with minimal supervision in a virtual work environment
  • Experience using Office365, MS Teams and SharePoint preferred
  • Able to work collaboratively within a diverse stakeholder group while applying independent initiative and critical thinking to associated project tasks and activities.
  • Strong organizational skills, capable of prioritizing multiple tasks and even projects.
  • Demonstrated ability using project management software programs to process data and interpret the results through critical thinking.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills, both verbal and written
