Project Facilitator – Youth Coding Instructor

Job Description

The Project Facilitator - Youth Coding Instructor will deliver engaging and interactive coding sessions for newcomer and immigrant youth ages 10-15. The role focuses on teaching foundational coding and digital literacy skills, while using mentoring and problem-solving approaches to build students' confidence, creativity, and career awareness in technology.

Key ResponsibilitiesInstruction & Mentorship

Teach coding concepts using beginner-friendly tools (Scratch, Python, web/game design). Support youth in hands-on projects, guiding them through problem-solving and critical thinking. Encourage creativity, collaboration, and resilience in a safe and inclusive classroom. Mentor participants to build confidence and foster interest in tech-related careers.
Program Delivery & Support

Prepare lesson plans and adapt curriculum to different learning levels. Create an inclusive learning environment that considers language and cultural barriers. Provide individual coaching to participants who need extra support. Track student progress and support program evaluation with feedback and outcomes.
Community Engagement

Collaborate with AIWCC staff to recruit, welcome, and support participants. Build strong relationships with youth and families to promote continued learning. Represent the program at community events or showcases.
Qualifications

Education & Experience



Post-secondary education in Computer Science, Education, or related field; or equivalent experience. Prior experience teaching or tutoring coding to children/youth. Experience working with diverse, multicultural communities, ideally newcomer or immigrant youth.

Skills & Competencies



Strong coding knowledge (e.g., Scratch, Python, web design basics). Ability to explain technical concepts in a simple, engaging way. Mentorship skills with an emphasis on problem-solving and confidence-building. Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. Culturally sensitive and supportive of equity-deserving groups.

Assets



Experience using creative digital tools (Piskel, micro:music). Previous experience in settlement services or youth programming.
