The City of Edmonton is seeking a passionate and innovative Engineer-in-Training (EIT) to play a vital role in shaping the future of our City. This is a crucial career opportunity to grow your expertise and contribute to building a more connected, sustainable, and accessible city for everyone.
As a key member of our Transportation Engineering team, you will work under the guidance of a Professional Engineer to be at the heart of the development process, ensuring required transportation upgrades support proposed development projects. You will be instrumental in assisting with the review and setting of conditions for a variety of applications, including development permit applications.
What will you do?

• Apply and expand your knowledge of transportation engineering, including transit, active transportation, traffic operations, engineering design and construction, in reviewing Development Permit Applications, Land Development Applications, and access requests from a transportation perspective
• Ensure compliance with City of Edmonton policies, bylaws, and the City of Edmonton guiding documents (such as City Plan, Zoning Bylaw, Access Management Guidelines, City of Edmonton Complete Streets Design and Construction Standards, Plans in Effect, etc.)
• Prepare written responses for review and finalization by a Professional Engineer, ensuring they clearly and concisely include all transportation requirements precisely established as conditions and advisements of an application
• Liaise and collaborate with applicants, property owners, consultants, other City staff, and utility agencies to resolve issues
• Organize, lead and/or actively participate in meetings with various collaborators to discuss transportation requirements or issues associated with proposed or future applications
• Assist with the review of access requests and draft responses for approval
• Assist with the review of internal City circulations and/or utility line assignments to ensure there are no conflicts with existing or proposed infrastructure Perform additional related duties as required to support the team's objectives and your development

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or Transportation Engineering
• Must be registered as an Engineer in Training (EIT) with APEGA (in good standing) and working towards a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation. Applicants in a different Canadian jurisdiction eligible for Inter-Provincial Mobility (IPMA) with APEGA may be considered. Registration with APEGA must be obtained prior to commencement of employment
• Experience in land development, with a focus on transportation engineering and /or transportation planning

• Communication and Professionalism: Strong interpersonal skills, including a commitment to customer service, negotiation, and excellent verbal and written communication for a variety of audiences
• Work Management: Ability to manage heavy workloads, effectively multitask, and meet deadlines for multiple projects under tight timelines
• Technical Skills: Excellent computer skills and a working knowledge of the Google suite of applications
• Development of Expertise: A required capacity to quickly acquire knowledge on land development including the City of Edmonton guiding documents (such as City Plan, Zoning Bylaw, Access Management Guidelines, City of Edmonton Complete Streets Design and Construction Standards, engineering drawings, subdivision, rezoning, etc. within the probation period

Conditions of Employment:

• Up to: 1 temporary full-time position for up to 11 months
• Hours of work: 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday
• Salary: $35.60 - $43.271 (Hourly)
• This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite
• This position is eligible for the EDO program (Earned Day Off)
