Job Summary
Under the direction of the Fire Chief, the Division Leader of Fire Training and Communications plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of Mississauga Fire and Emergency Services. You will be responsible for delivering innovative training programs that support staff development, operational readiness, and continuous improvement and overseeing the Communications Centre, ensuring high-performance emergency response coordination and technological integration. You will lead and manage assigned staff, fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, and collaboration.
Duties and Responsibilities

• Direct and manage service delivery in compliance with corporate policies, procedures, and applicable legislation;
• Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual reports to the Director, and the Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management (OFMEM);
• Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of training programs and staff development plans;
• Manage staffing, succession planning, and professional growth for Training and Communications personnel;
• Oversee budgeting and financial planning for both sections, including preparation of corporate reports;
• Conduct research and produce reports on strategic projects and initiatives;
• Liaise with internal departments, external agencies, and community partners to advance divisional objectives;
• Set annual goals, policies, and priorities; ensure work plans are developed and executed to meet section targets;
• Provide direction and ensure operational excellence within the Communications Centre;
• Assist the Operations Division and contribute to incident command during large-scale emergencies, including EOC operations;
• Demonstrate familiarity and experience with on-call Chief Officer responsibilities;
• Perform other responsibilities as assigned to support divisional success.

Skills and Qualifications

• Post-secondary degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, or Education, combined with a minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in the Fire Service, or an equivalent blend of education and relevant experience;
• In-depth understanding of National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) professional standards and the Ontario Fire Marshal and Emergency Management (OFMEM) certification and educational frameworks;
• Demonstrated ability to lead, evaluate, and manage teams, with a proven track record of effective supervision and staff development;
• Exceptional written and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to build strong working relationships and deliver high-quality customer service across diverse stakeholder groups;
• Must hold a valid Ontario Driver's License.

Hourly Rate/Salary: $ 157,986.00 - $ 210,644.00
