As a Project Engineer, you will lead the delivery of complex vertical infrastructure projects such as recreation buildings, fire stations, operations centers, libraries, mixed-use sites, and other essential City-owned facilities. You will play a key role in ensuring these facilities are safe, durable, and efficiently operable through engineering expertise in design, construction, and project management. This position requires utilizing project management leadership and engineering expertise, with accountability for scope, schedule, budget, risk management, and interested party coordination. Primary duties include:
Lead project planning, design and execution: Develop project plans, schedules, budgets, and performance metrics to ensure successful delivery of complex capital projects. Lead the design, construction, and handover for projects including new buildings, additions, and major renovations.
Procurement and consultant management: Hire and oversee architectural and engineering consultants and contractors, managing procurement processes and ensuring deliverables meet scope, schedule, and quality requirements.
Project Oversight: Manage project scope, scheduling, strategy development, and budget control to ensure alignment with goals and delivery timelines.
Contract Administration: Administer contracts, review and approve change orders/extensions, and ensure compliance with specifications and standards. Analyze change requests and/or value management opportunities for cost, necessity and feasibility and identify innovative solutions.
Risk Management: Identify potential risks and implement mitigation strategies using sound engineering judgment and project management best practices.
Technical Reviews: Provide engineering reviews of designs to confirm design best practices, material selection, constructability, durability, and lifecycle cost efficiency. Support lifecycle planning, including consultant engagement and quality assurance review.
Reporting & Communication: Develop and present reports on key project metrics, risks, and recommendations to senior management and interested parties.
Site Engagement: Conduct regular site visits to monitor progress, ensure quality, and resolve issues proactively.
Interested Party Collaboration: Facilitate communication and collaboration with internal departments, regulatory agencies, consultants, contractors, and interest holders to ensure successful project outcomes.
Subject Matter Expert: May act as Discipline Champion Alternative for Supply's engineering review process and prequalification process under the engineering categories.
Standards Development: Contribute to the creation and maintenance of engineering design standards for City-owned buildings and site structures.
