DESCRIPTION

Michels Canada is looking for a Project Coordinator/Purchaser (1 year contract) to join our exciting trenchless infrastructure projects right here in Edmonton! The successful candidate will be performing a wide range of tasks including project planning, assisting with schedules, document control, procurement and stakeholder coordination on site. This position will be based in Edmonton, AB Canada, and will be instrumental to the success of a major tunnel replacement project currently in design phase.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain and promote a strong safety culture for all employees, vendors, and customers and follow all safety policies, procedures and regulations. Identify and communicate workplace hazards and correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions.
  • Coordinate activities needed to support and administer all phases of construction contracts and project controls through close-out.
  • Identify vendors for materials, equipment or supplies; Effectively communicate to determine product availability and terms of sales. Identifies new supplier opportunities and completes initial research of suppliers. Provides recommendations and assists with selection of additions to the preferred vendor\'s list
  • Conduct price and vendor analysis to identify new opportunities and complete initial research of vendors.
  • Coordinate returns, credits, and available warranties as required.
  • Ensures pricing and terms match agreed-upon contracts with preferred vendors. Execute contracts within limits identified by Supply Chain management.
  • Responsible for negotiations of pricing and terms when sourcing from non-preferred vendor suppliers. Execute contracts within limits identified by Supply Chain management.
  • Interface with other divisions and departments to support order processing, shipping, delivery, and quality.
  • Ensure all materials and services are procured in accordance with the project construction program and in compliance with the project specifications
  • Ensure all the PSA, MSA, and WO issues prior to scheduled work according to the project baseline schedule
  • Negotiate with vendors and suppliers to obtain the most competitive price in line with the project budget
  • Maintained a procurement log and update according to issued PO and PSA and WO
  • Support activities of personnel engaged in buying and distributing materials, equipment, machinery, parts, and supplies.
  • Confirms material shipping and delivery while ensuring alignment with required schedule and specifications.
  • Works closely with Superintendent and Foreman to schedule yard and equipment deliveries, estimating, take-offs, and solicits quotes.
  • Maintains documentation to track purchases, material, production, and project costs using the information to communicate with internal departments if applicable.
  • Assists with timecard, daily costs and trend charts.
  • Assists with progress payment, RFI\xe2\x80\x99s and change orders.
  • Checks and prepares invoices for approval; route to AP for payment and ensure correct coding and complete necessary follow up work.
  • Prepare reports for guidance of management.
  • Supports corporate and divisional teams on a variety of clerical related tasks.
  • Other duties as required.
REQUIREMENTS
  • 2+ years of related procurement experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficient with MS Office suite
  • Experience working within a construction environment is an asset
  • Must be comfortable working on site for extended periods at a time up to 10-12 hours per day during construction phase (based in Edmonton)
  • Strong negotiation skills will be required
  • Valid driver\'s license with clean abstract is required

  • Must possess exceptional communication skills
  • Present a professional attitude when liaising with vendors, suppliers, or project stakeholders.
  • Experience working within a construction environment is an asset
EDUCATION
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree or diploma in Supply Chain Management, Engineering or related discipline is an asset.
LANGUAGES
  • Must be able to communicate verbally and through written language (by hand and digitally) in English
