Duties


Parks Canada is looking for the ideal candidate to fill the position of Project Coordinator for the Jasper Field Unit. This position will assist in project and construction management, and provide technical support for recapitalization, rehabilitation, and repair projects for built assets in Jasper National Park and Fort St. James National Historic Site.

Reporting to the Asset Manager and working closely with project managers, the individual will assist in project management duties from the preliminary design phase through to construction for Architectural and Engineering related projects. Scope of projects generally include the recapitalization, repair, and rehabilitation of built assets such as campgrounds, visitor and operational facilities, roads, and pedestrian and vehicular bridges.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to;
  • Assisting in development of project requirements, scope, budget, and schedule
  • Coordinating contractors and consultants at various phases of a project and managing the associated call-ups and contracts.
  • Construction inspection
  • Assisting in the development of consultant call-ups and scopes of work for contractors related to projects
  • Review of tender documents and specifications
  • Review of consultant and contractor deliverables
  • Working and engaging with Parks Canada Project Leads, Project Managers, and stakeholders for various projects
  • Aiding in progress billing process for consultants and contractors
  • Preparing estimates and supporting documents required to assist the Project Leads and Project Managers to prepare Request for Project Approval documents and related project updates

Work environment

Parks Canada is a federal government agency responsible for the protection and presentation of Canada\xe2\x80\x99s outstanding natural and cultural resources through a system of national parks, national marine conservation areas and national historic sites in all regions of Canada.

Intent of the process

This process will be used to fill one term position with a specified period of April 2023 to April 2025.

EDUCATION
Graduation from a recognized post-secondary institution with a diploma/degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, construction management or other engineering specialties related to the position or have an acceptable* combination of education, training and experience.

Proof of education will be required at time of interview.

  • An acceptable combination of education, training and experience is defined as having a minimum of 2 years of experience within the last 5 years in construction and project management related to built assets.
Degree equivalency OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION
Eligibility for Applied Science Technologist (AScT), Certified Technician (C. Tech.), Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.), Engineer in Training (EIT), Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Architect or other equivalent designation through a provincial regulator.
EXPERIENCE
  • Significant* experience in managing construction sites;
  • Significant* experience in managing external contractors and ensuring the quality of work;
  • Experience in construction project management;
  • Experience in Engineering or Architectural design;
  • Experience working in an environment requiring collaboration between various stakeholders;
  • Experience in managing complex logistics.

  • Significant experience is defined as having performed this task on an on-going basis as part of their main duties at least two years in the last five years.

  • Knowledge of Engineering and/or Architectural design and practices;
  • Knowledge of principles and best practices associated with project and construction management;
  • Knowledge of current codes, standards and construction methods related to built works.

  • Ability to analyze and synthesize complex information including technical drawings and specifications;
  • Ability to develop options and solutions to construction challenges in relation to technical drawings and specifications;
  • Ability to plan and coordinate projects involving design consultants, contractors, and multiple stakeholders or partners;
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing including preparing reports, presentations and briefings;
  • Ability to successfully engage in all phases of multiple ongoing projects;
  • Ability to use word processing, database and spreadsheet applications;
  • Ability to operate independently.

ADDITIONAL OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Designation;
  • Certification in Construction Management.

Conditions of employment

  • You are required to obtain and maintain a Reliability Status security clearance.
  • You are required to possess and maintain a valid Class 5 driver\xe2\x80\x99s licence (Class L, N or other graduated licenses will not be accepted).
  • You must be willing to work overtime.
  • You will be required to work shift-work, and/or weekends, and/or statutory holidays and provincial/territorial holidays as scheduled by your delegated manager.
  • You must be willing to work and travel in a variety of terrains and weather conditions in the performance of the duties.
  • You will be required to work in adverse weather conditions.
  • You may be required to wear a uniform while performing your duties.
  • You much be willing and able to wear required safety equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE).
