Come be a part of Canada\xe2\x80\x99s premier Science and Technology organization, Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL), as the Historic Waste Program Management Office (HWP MO) in Port, Hope Ontario implements Canada\xe2\x80\x99s largest low-level radioactive waste (LLRW) environmental remediation project.

THE POSITION
The Field Coordinator will be part of the Construction team and work directly under the direction of the Manager, Construction in support of the Property Remediation and Restoration (PRR) project team. The Field Coordinator will provide support and direct oversight to restoration activities within the PRR remediation team\xe2\x80\x99s scope of work to ensure compliance with Ontario Building Code, Contract Specifications and design requirements

Through its Historic Waste Program (HWP), CNL is implementing the Port Hope Area Initiative (PHAI) \xe2\x80\x93 a federal initiative to clean-up low-level radioactive waste situated in the Municipality of Port Hope and the Municipality of Clarington. The project involves remediating several contaminated sites to established clean-up criteria and consolidating the wastes in a new engineered mound (one in each community). The project is sponsored by Atomic Energy of Canada Limited (AECL), and project delivery is led by CNL. The HWP also carries out responsibilities of the federal government to manage non-PHAI low-level radioactive waste within Canada under its National Programs initiative

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

  • Actively assists with the definition, coordination and implementation of the various construction work packages under the scope of services described as site restoration.
  • Assists in preparing/reviewing various project documents including TSWs, SOWs, project schedules, and project budgets and engineering design.
  • Prepares status updates and track work activities as part of project management and corporate reporting requirements.
  • Requests Clarification from contractors when required to accurately move project forward.
  • Coordinates contractor submittals (schedules, SOPs, reports, plans, RFIs, procedures, product data, drawings, shop drawings, costs/ invoices) and ensure scope requirements meet contract expectations.
  • Reviews technical studies and detailed reports prepared by design consultants and other contributing parties to ensure high quality (technical accuracy) and consistency with requirements to CNL technical documentation standards.
  • Continuous improvements-identify process improvement opportunities and industry field technologies, including applicable codes and standards related to PHAI project activities.
  • Reviews technical studies and detailed reports prepared by design consultants and other contributing parties to ensure high quality (technical accuracy and appropriateness) and consistency with requirements to CNL technical documentation standards.
  • Tracks deliverables for technical accuracy and adequacy, review cost calculations, and assess need for potential changes in scope, cost, schedule or quality.
  • Reviews work plans and implementation, champion quality, through both contractor and field oversight.
  • Works on site with the contractor(s) to ensure efficient, safe and compliant delivery of PRR projects
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

A Bachelor of Engineering Degree, Civil or Environmental, or Bachelor degree in a related scientific area with a minimum of two years of related experience.
Or
Post-secondary diploma and up to four years of directly relatable experience in a Construction, Engineering, or related Scientific Industry.

Minimum of 5 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in residential construction with a knowledge of multiple trades.

Job/Industry Specific Knowledge:
  • Knowledge of engineering procedures and practices, organization and quality processes.
  • Good understanding of compliance program requirements and knowledgeable of procurement practices and have some experience in contract management.
  • Knowledge of project management principles (scope, schedule, time, quality, risk) and hands-on experience in the management of engineering activities during the various phases of a project, such as the PHAI (i.e., concept, design, procurement, construction, commissioning, operation and decommissioning).
  • Team player with superior verbal communication and technical writing skills as well as the ability to work effectively with personnel of varying disciplines

Location:

\xc2\xb7 This role is based out of CNL\xe2\x80\x99s Port Hope location, which will be the designated workplace. CNL may require you to travel from time to time, as necessary.
\xc2\xb7 CNL\xe2\x80\x99s Historic Waste Program Management Office is in the beautiful and historic community of Port Hope, Ontario. Roughly 100kms East of Toronto, Port Hope is located at the mouth of the Ganaraska River on the north shore of Lake Ontario, in the west end of Northumberland County. Basically, still close enough to the \xe2\x80\x9cBig City\xe2\x80\x9d without all the hassle of being in the \xe2\x80\x9cBig City\xe2\x80\x9d.
\xc2\xb7 As a leader in environmental remediation at nuclear and radiologically contaminated sites, CNL is implementing the Port Hope Area Initiative on behalf of Atomic Energy of Canada Limited. The cleanup of historic Low Level Radioactive Waste by CNL in the communities of Port Hope and Port Granby in Ontario is a demonstration of Canada\xe2\x80\x99s commitment to the safe, long-term storage and management of nuclear waste.
