Project Controller (engineering), 12 Month Contract

Job Description

:

The role of the Project Controller (Engineering) is to assist with the planning and performance monitoring of Engineering projects, including providing guidance to Engineering Leads / Managers through the implementation of project controls processes, procedures and contracts. The incumbent will track performance weekly and monthly and incorporate earn value analysis, to define both the physical and the economic performance of assigned projects and recommend action to be taken should deviations from the optimal performance be highlighted. The Project Controller (Engineering) must assist with the implementation and maintenance of the project baseline and project execution plan, inclusive of setting up the project administrative aspects.

Education and Work Experience:

  • University degree (business or engineering) in quantity surveying, cost estimating or mining. Additional qualifications and/or certification(s) in project management, contract administration and key performance indicator measurement will be considered an asset.
  • 1-3 years post-graduate field and/or office based project accounting, estimating or controls experience related to engineering projects or operational mining environment, with knowledge of project management, construction contracts, reporting and data manipulation
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Perform Project Controls for the Engineering Department
  • Prepare project documentation as well as cost and progress throughout the engineering life cycle
  • Manage and execute the change management process within the Engineering department
  • Coordinate internal quality reviews
  • Drive the development, adoption and delivery of key engineering systems, processes, practices and Standard Engineering Procedures
  • Oversee the Procurement of engineered systems and major equipment
  • Perform technical editing and writing functions
  • Identify risk, provide risk mitigation strategies, and escalate issues to the appropriate manager
  • Prepare and finalize the close-out reports, including maintaining historical cost and production information in a format as prescribed
  • Implement and oversee document control functions; may perform document control tasks
Knowledge Required:
  • Good understanding of general business interfaces and/or processes as they related to human resources, procurement, engineering, construction operations, accounting, contracts and administration departments
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (internally and externally) and demonstrated ability to work with management
  • Potential to lead administrative aspects of project controls
  • Good conceptual skills in understanding relationships between projects, the overall organization and its environment, and how change in one part of the project affects the whole
  • Comprehensive computer skills including Microsoft Office, scheduling software (MS Projects or Primavera), measurement and estimating software
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
