GreenCentre Canada provides scientific expertise and services to meaningfully impact the speed to market of next generation sustainable products and processes, working closely with both entrepreneurs and industry to address their unique technical challenges and create customized and innovative solutions in a low-risk, confidential, and collaborative framework. We engage with companies in the battery, water-treatment, semi-conductor, and bio-products sectors through both our government funded and Innovation Services program.
We are currently recruiting a Development Scientist specializing in material design and synthesis for electrochemical applications such as testing for batteries, fuel cell, CO2 electrochemical conversion, and other associated applications. This exclusive full-time, 12 month contract will be at our Innovation Park, Kingston, Ontario location, with a target start date of July 17th, 2023 and end date of July 12th, 2024.

Development Scientist \xe2\x80\x93 candidates must have at minimum a PhD, or a MSc with 2+ years of industrial experience, in chemistry or chemical engineering related to material design and synthesis for electrochemical applications such as testing for batteries, fuel cell, CO2 electrochemical conversion, and other associated applications. Postdoctoral or industrial experience including project management is a strong asset.
All candidates must be highly flexible and capable of managing complex schedules. Detailed qualification and responsibility description appears below. Compensation is commensurate with experience and qualifications. In the cover letter, please describe the extent of your experience in each of the following areas:

  • Synthetic chemistry with particular emphasis on the synthesis of materials applied to electrochemical processes in batteries, fuel cells, CO2 electrochemical conversion, and other associated applications. Provide details on the range of materials synthesized, process development, application testing and characterization expertise.
  • Experience with experimental, system design and successful scale-up.
  • Ability to work efficiently, safely and cooperatively in a laboratory environment and keeping excellent records of work performed.
  • Experience in characterization methods, including but not limited to XRD, UV-vis and FT-IR spectroscopy, thermal analysis including TGA/DSC, GPC/SEC chromatography, NMR, gas chromatography, and mass spectrometry.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, both written and verbally, ideas and results to all levels of understanding.

  • Work safely \xe2\x80\x93 following laboratory procedures and policies
  • Analyze hazards and proactively develop and implement methods to reduce risk
  • Conceptualize, design, recommend, and implement synthetic routes and experimental protocols using scientific methods
  • Use personal judgment and initiative in adapting protocols to meet the needs of the project and to test new hypotheses
  • Work closely with an industry partner to provide quality results that meet their corporate targets
  • Prepare results for presentation, publication, and patenting
  • Communicate and interact effectively with both clients and fellow scientists
  • Have a passion for chemistry, working collaboratively and helping our clients achieve their goals.

Qualification Requirements
  • PhD (or MSc with relevant experience) in chemistry or chemical engineering
  • Postdoctoral or industrial experience including project management is a strong asset
  • Demonstrated leadership skills are an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to work both separately and within a team environment
  • Proven organizational and problem-solving skills; ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Currently legally permitted to work in Canada.
