Job Description

Project ControllerOur client is looking for a Project Controller to join their team in Edmonton. The ideal candidate will lead the cost control & operational finance function on specific large projects while working closely with the Finance, Operations, and Executive teams.Your success will be defined by your ability to:

• Provide sound project accounting (percentage of completion) expertise.
• Manage the accounting for large construction projects including budgeting, forecasting, change management, reporting & analysis, cash flow development, revenue recognition and detailed WIP analysis
• Review and understand detailed contracts and how to apply the terms to the accounting for unique projects, including invoicing requirements and specific payment terms.
• Oversee, identify and report to management project variances with recommended actions while maintaining the cash flow reporting for the project.
• Facilitate & drive cost review meetings (Weekly/Monthly/Quarterly) with different departments to prepare monthly reporting packages.
• Maintain and track change orders and claims log.
• Monitor project accounting systems to ensure proper reporting, security and control.
• Utilize WBS using a crew-based approach to provide forecasting (sometimes daily or weekly) in alignment with an earned value/CPI based approach.
• Support Project Director/Project manager in project financial management and divisional reporting.
• Work with subcontractors which may be intercompany or third-party providers.
• Operate in a multifunctional environment collaborating with project delivery functions to understand, analyze and document project scope and cost projections.
• Track labor productivity and provide commodity reporting.
• Other projects as required.

Your strengths include:

• Bachelor\'s Degree in a related discipline (Finance or Accounting).
• Strong project accounting experience
• Minimum 5 years of direct experience leading the project accounting for construction projects.
• Strong Microsoft Office skills particularly Excel as well as an aptitude for learning other specialized financial/project software packages.
• Knowledge and experience utilizing JD Edwards considered an asset.
• Confident communicator at all levels internally and externally with the ability to articulate different points of view.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Collaborative team player with the ability to work independently as well.
• Strong work ethic and highly organized with the ability to manage competing priorities and tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Level-headed with the ability to deal with challenging, high stress situations.
• Ability and interest in working at project job offices which will be located at or near the construction site.
