Project Accountant
to support our growing project portfolio and contribute to the success of our finance function.
Position Overview
As a Project Accountant, you will play a key role in managing project-related financial operations. You'll work closely with the Controller, Principal, and Project Directors to ensure accurate project accounting, budget monitoring, and timely financial reporting. This is an ideal role for a newly designated CPA or a CPA candidate nearing program completion who thrives in a collaborative and design-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
Accounts Payable & Project Support
Review and verify vendor invoices with Project Directors and the Principal to ensure accuracy and appropriate cost coding
Perform variance analysis to monitor budgets and support cost control
Process vendor payments via wire transfers, EFTs, and cheques
Assist in tracking and recording change orders to maintain up-to-date project financials
Payroll & Benefits
Support biweekly payroll processing for salaried and hourly employees
Review and reconcile group benefits billing
Prepare and file quarterly WCB reports
Address staff inquiries related to payroll and benefits
General Accounting & Reporting
Reconcile company credit card transactions and ensure accurate recording
Prepare weekly and monthly cash flow forecasts
Manage intercompany billing for time and materials
Prepare and reconcile GST/PST filings
Assist with month-end and year-end close
Perform other ad hoc accounting duties as required
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
CPA designation or actively pursuing CPA, nearing program completion
Minimum 5 years of accounting experience (experience in project accounting or construction/development is an asset)
Strong attention to detail, organization, and analytical skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Proficient in Microsoft Excel and macOS; experience with Spectrum or other ERP systems is an asset
Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a dynamic environment
