Job Purpose
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive
Project Accountant
to join our Finance team. The Project Accountant plays a key role in supporting project managers and senior leadership by providing accurate financial reporting, analyzing project costs, and ensuring strong alignment between operations and accounting. This role is critical to tracking the financial performance of projects from initiation to close-out, supporting informed decision-making, and protecting margins.
Key Responsibilities
Manage all accounting functions related to assigned projects, including cost tracking, billing, and financial reporting.
Prepare project budgets and forecasts in collaboration with project managers and department leads.
Monitor project expenditures against budget, identifying and investigating variances.
Prepare and submit progress billings, ensuring compliance with contract terms.
Track change orders and ensure they are accurately reflected in financial reports.
Reconcile project accounts and support month-end and year-end closing processes.
Provide timely and accurate project financial reports and dashboards to management.
Assist in preparing cash flow projections and working capital requirements for active projects.
Work closely with project managers to ensure project financial performance is well understood and controlled.
Support internal and external audits with project financial information.
Qualifications & Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA designation or working towards designation is considered an asset).
3-5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within construction, fabrication, or project-based industries.
Strong understanding of project accounting principles, cost control, and billing practices.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting/project management software.
Excellent attention to detail, analytical skills, and organizational abilities.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
