About the Position
The Programs Team Lead plays a critical role in the daily operations of registered and drop-in recreation programs and activities. Reporting to the Recreation Programs Supervisor and Coordinator, this position provides leadership, guidance, orientation, and training to the programs staff team. The Programs Team Lead works collaboratively with all SLSC departments to ensure exceptional guest experiences and efficient program delivery. This is a part-time hourly position that includes early mornings, evenings, and weekends.
Specific responsibilities:
Leadership & Training:
Provide supplemental leadership, orientation, and training for Recreation Attendants.
Facility Operations:
Ensures the setup and teardown of all facility bookings across the Turf, Gym, Arenas, Rooms, and other facility locations as required.
Party Packages & School Groups:
Overseeing and greeting party and school group bookings on the day of their visit, ensuring a welcoming experience and smooth execution.
Software Proficiency:
Become skilled with our CRM/program registration software, pulling reports and information as needed to support programming (e.g., setup and teardown).
Activity Monitoring:
Monitor drop-in activities, including wristband checks and managing capacities, recommending changes as needed. Enforce program, activity, and facility policies, with particular attention to the fieldhouse, climbing centre, & arenas.
Equipment Management:
Conduct inspections and inventory of recreation equipment and materials, ensuring safety and optimal working conditions. Submit work orders for maintenance as required.
Support:
Provide support for recreational areas as assigned (e.g., Special Events, PLAYCare), including troubleshooting facility booking and staff scheduling issues in the absence of the Supervisor and Coordinator.
Emergency Response:
Address facility emergencies, first aid requests, theft, and other incidents in collaboration with Duty Managers, Operations, and Health & Safety teams. Assume the role of Area Warden during emergency evacuations.
Customer Service:
Respond to patron inquiries, provide facility orientations, and ensure a welcoming environment and a positive guest experience.
Issue Resolution:
Communicate effectively, using sound judgment to resolve issues, safety risks, and guest experience.
Cross-Departmental Communication & Incident Reporting:
Effective communication to Experience Dept Leadership, Operations, Health & Safety, and others for follow-up on issues related to customer experience, hazards/safety risks, incidents and concerns at the facility.
Administrative Tasks:
Accountable for admin-based work, as assigned, directed, and/or scheduled. Administration tasks always come second to the needs of customers and the programs team.* Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Experience in similar role an asset, demonstrating proactivity, initiative, and a focus on logistics, safety, & customer service.
Experience as a leader (formal or informal) with a proven ability to provide coaching and constructive feedback.
Passion for play, sport, arts, culture, fitness, STEM, or a relevant area of interest.
Current Intermediate First Aid & CPR is required
Previous experience with CRM/bookings systems is desirable.
Proficiency with MS Office is required.
Ability to skate is a significant asset.
Strong command of the English language (written and verbal).
Physical Requirements:
o Ability to walk and be on your feet for long periods.
o Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist intermittently or continuously.
o Ability to grasp, push, pull objects, reach overhead, and lift/carry up to 50 lbs.
Current RCMP Vulnerable Sector Check required upon hire.
