Position Overview
The Programming Associate supports Librarians and Specialists in preparing and delivering library programs for all ages. The majority of the work of the Programming Associate involves preparing and delivering programs at branches of the Saskatoon Public Library (SPL). The Programming Associate may work outside of library branches at events and programs in the community.
In consultation with the branch programming team, the Programming Associate ensures all programs reflect the diverse and unique needs of the community and in alignment with the strategic plan. The Programming Associate makes recommendations for new programs or changes to existing program plans to the Neighbourhood Librarian, keeping in regular communication with the Programming & Creative Spaces team. The Programming Associate oversees all aspects of programs and events at SPL. The Programming Associate may participate in the public service work of their branch as necessary.
Key Duties
1. Preparing & delivering programs:
Preparing and delivering programs within an established framework and set of goals. Programs may be SPL-presented or partnered, employee-led and self-directed. Programs are for adults, teens and children at SPL locations and in the community.
2. Tours & visits:
Preparing and delivering tours and visits for community members and classes. Visits may include, but are not limited to, presentations at schools that may include summer reading club or other initiatives, events or presentations in the branch or the community, and visits to community partners.
3. Work on programming and branch teams:
Participate on internal teams related to programming for adults, teens and children, and branch services.
Circulation of library material, assisting patrons to use quick-checkouts, creating and managing patron accounts, resolving routine patron concerns and escalating concerns as necessary, responding to information inquiries, including reference interviews, readers' advisory and assisting patrons in using technology.
5. Administrative:
Gathering and imputing statistics and assessment, inventory and routing of supplies for programming, creating accounts and cards, room bookings, routine financial transactions, entering patron incidents and other statistics into databases.
Qualifications
Completion of a Library and Information Technology diploma OR; Two years post-secondary plus completion of two SPL-approved library-related courses, which may be completed after hire. Degrees and diplomas must be from an accredited institution.
Minimum of one-year experience in preparing, developing and delivering programs for children and/or teens in the past five years.
Ability to travel independently to and between SPL activities and locations as needed.
