Position Summary:
As an integral part of the University of Regina, Information Services provides the technological infrastructure to support the work of students, faculty, and staff. Information Services facilitates learning, teaching, research, and effective university administration by the knowledgeable staff who deliver service and technology on an on-going basis throughout the university community.

Reporting to the Manager, File & Deployment Services, the incumbent will work within the group responsible for the administration of Directory Services used for provisioning access to files, and services for almost all UofR applications. In addition the position will administer the installation, maintenance, and operation of servers and software systems for the provisioning of directory services, file services, backups, and PC management located both on-premise and in the cloud.

Primary Functions:

  • Administer account services (Directory/Identity Services, Access control) for staff and students for on-premise and applicable cloud systems;
  • Implement assigned systems/software as per best practices, vendor recommendations, and client consultations to ensure they are tested, reliable, and secure;
  • Administer campus wide file services as well as some faculty file services including capacity monitoring, performance monitoring, disaster recovery implementation, and backup/restore operations;
  • Automate common tasks through software customization and development;
  • Document new or modified configurations/procedures for production services and applications to ensure service continuity during absences; and,
  • Prioritize and resolve incoming problem reports and service requests for services/software administered.


Position Requirements
Position Requirements:
  • Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or Software Systems Engineering with 3 years experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered;
  • Demonstrated ability to administer Linux multiuser computing systems. Experience with Windows server is an asset;
  • Proven ability to program in common languages and environments (e.g. Perl, Python, Unix shell scripting, Powershell) as well as web development experience (LAMP);
  • Experience working with identity and access management systems like Active Directory or eDirectory;
  • Good written and verbal communication skills;
  • Experience managing computer systems in a heterogeneous environment;
  • Demonstrated ability to be a collaborative and collegial team member;
  • Experience participating in IT projects, preferably in a University environment;
  • The ability to regularly learn and adapt to new technology;
  • Experience with administrating cloud resources like Amazon Web Services or Microsoft Azure would be an asset;
  • Knowledge of U of R computing systems and practices would be an asset; and,
  • The ability to work occasional flex time to perform maintenance/upgrades/repairs outside of normal business hours.
Physical Demands Pay Grade APT 7 Salary Range $76,245 - $102,901 Annually Status Permanent Work Hours
