Summary: The Water and the SDGs programme manager will lead two of UNA-Canada\xe2\x80\x99s projects in Northern Canada. The Youth for Water Canada project funded by Environment and Climate Change Canada will empower youth to improve the health of freshwater ecosystems by engaging volunteers in the conservation, restoration and sustainable management of these ecosystems in the Nunavut Territory. The project will support two engagement tracks (1) a communications track focused on media, outreach and public engagement projects in support of healthy freshwater systems, and (2) a technical track providing skills, tools and methods to assess and monitor the health of freshwater ecosystems. The Gen SDG North project, funded by Employment and Social Development Canada, will provide youth from Nunavut, Nunavik and the Yukon with the opportunity to participate in workshops, skills and training on the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) with an aim to empower youth to launch their own community initiatives in support of the SDG that reflects their interest and their community\xe2\x80\x99s needs. The Gen SDG North project is an expansion of UNA-Canada\xe2\x80\x99s long-running Generation SDG project (https://www.unac.org/generationsdg) For both projects, activities will include workshops, mentorships and small grants for youth-driven community projects. The position is ideal for an organized and creative programme manager with a strong focus on youth engagement and the creation of strategic partnerships for funding and delivery. The ideal candidate has a range of programme management skills, including budgeting, planning and reporting. The position is supported by UNA-Canada\xe2\x80\x99s talented shared services division and a programme officer. Responsibilities: The Programme Manager is responsible for managing the delivery of the Youth for Water Canada (25%) and Gen SDG North (70%) and for supporting the ideation and development of funding proposals for programme co-funding and spin-off programmes (5% time). This includes:
  • \xc2\xb7 Establishing project management frameworks including timelines, task and deliverable management and monitoring and evaluation systems;
  • \xc2\xb7 Identifying programme risks and developing strategies to address risks;
  • \xc2\xb7 Ensuring the timely reporting of programme results;
  • \xc2\xb7 Maintaining accurate and up to date programme budgets;
  • \xc2\xb7 Verifying and approving invoices and submit payments;
  • \xc2\xb7 Managing programme staff and contractors;
  • \xc2\xb7 Delivering training on the SDGs;
  • \xc2\xb7 Developing and maintaining positive and productive partnerships in Northern Canada including local travel within the region as required;
  • Supporting the Northern Youth Advisory Council;
  • Selecting and recruiting programme participants, subject matter experts, and mentors paying full consideration to ensuring the participation of all youth, especially indigenous youth and those facing barriers;
  • Designing and delivering experiential learning opportunities for programme participants;
  • \xc2\xb7 Identifying potential new spin-off and complimentary programme opportunities and presenting such opportunities to senior management;
  • \xc2\xb7 Ensuring adherence to UNA-Canada and donor policies and procedures;
  • \xc2\xb7 Provide regular communications to senior management and other staff and volunteers across the organization;
  • \xc2\xb7 Other tasks as may be identified by supervisors.
Qualifications:
  • The selected candidate must be located in Northern Canada (preferred) or demonstrate a close connection to Canada\xe2\x80\x99s North;
  • Technical skills related to one or more of the SDGs is required;
  • Technical skills related to water management is desirable;
  • Minimum of 3-years experience working in programme / project management in youth engagement or sustainable development;
  • High level of organization and ability to manage multiple competing tasks with a small team;
  • Strong budget management skills;
  • A record of successfully engaging with youth and other stakeholders;
  • Demonstrated experience related to the implementation of the SDGs is desirable;
  • Experience working for a non profit, charity, or Indigenous or government organization is desirable;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
