This is a contract position with no defined end date, subject to the availability of funding. The successful candidate will continue in this role under an open-ended contract until such time as an end date is determined

As part of the OKC team, the Program Support Person (RECE) will:

Provide one-on-one and group support for children with special needs, including those with challenging behaviours, in a variety of early learning settings. Work collaboratively with families, staff, and community partners to ensure children are included and supported in programming. Assist in planning and delivering inclusive activities for children 0-6 and their families, following the principles of How Does Learning Happen? and the requirements outlined in the ELECT document. Be under the supervision of the Supervisor of Our Kids Count Early Learning Centre but will be expected to work independently within clear guidelines defining their role.

Duties and Responsibilities



Demonstrate respect for the diversity of individuals and promote an inclusive environment. Plan and adapt early learning activities for children with varying abilities, ensuring developmental appropriateness. Implement positive behaviour guidance strategies to support self-regulation and social skills. Maintain a safe, clean, and inviting playroom and program space. Complete observations of children's progress, share information with families, and document learning through photos and written records. Actively engage at the child's level, participating in play and learning activities. Provide parents with information and resources to support their parenting role (e.g., articles, referrals, and program suggestions). Participate in regular staff meetings, contribute ideas to program development, and engage in conflict resolution when needed. Attend professional development opportunities related to special needs support and early childhood education.

Keen interest in the well-being of children and families.

Qualifications



Registered Early Childhood Educator in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators. Minimum two years' experience working with young children, preferably in special needs support or with challenging behaviours. Experience with children and families from high-risk populations is an asset.

Working Conditions



Willingness to work flexible hours, including some evenings or weekends. Access to a reliable vehicle with valid driver's license and $2 million liability insurance. Current Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check. Infant/Child First Aid & CPR certification.
Job Types: Full-time, Fixed term contract

Pay: $24.86 per hour

Expected hours: 35 - 40 per week
