The Program Supervisor will be directly responsible for the team members, their health and well-being and their day-to-day activities. The incumbent will supervise their ministry responsibilities at the local ministry units and be a liaison with the corps officers/ministry leaders. The incumbent will monitor a holistic Gospel Centered and relational focused ministry including but not limited to Christian discipleship, leadership development. The program supervisor assists the program Manager in the day-to-day management of the shelter.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Role Specific Responsibilities

  • Directly responsible for the shelter cleaning with the team members, monitoring activities onsite and in the community; working together in the food planning/purchase.
  • Working with the Corps Officers, the Program Supervisor oversees the operation by scheduling, assigning, and monitoring work, gathering resources, implementing productivity standards, resolving operations problems, maintaining reference manuals, and implementing new procedures.
  • Contribute to the spiritual development of the team members by mentoring, discipling, encouraging, and modeling appropriate attitudes and behaviors.
  • Working alongside with team members to ensure that rules and regulations are followed by team members.
  • Implement and enforce system, policies, and procedures at the shelter.
  • Maintain safe and healthy work environment by establishing and enforcing organization standards and adhering to legal regulations.
  • Control expenses by gathering and submitting budget information, scheduling expenditures, monitoring variances, and implementing corrective actions.
  • Maintain a log of any occurrences; compile and maintain accurate data, to ensure smooth operation of the shelter.
  • Ensure that all duties are completed in accordance with the principals, standards, policies, and procedures of The Salvation Army.
Supervision
  • Support, assist and ensure that team members work together.
  • Provide worksite orientation and training for team members as required to ensure health and safety.
  • Aide in fulfilling mission objectives by supervising team members and organizing and monitoring work processes.
  • Aide team members by coaching, counseling, and coordinating schedules.
Health and Safety
  • Ensure cleaning and maintain a high level of cleanliness at all times within the shelter.
  • Conduct and log security checks in and around the premises.
  • Responsible for the following, work in compliance with the New Brunswick Health & Safety Act and Regulations, use personal prescribed safety equipment and clothing as directed by the employer, report workplace hazards, dangers, injuries or illness, work in a manner as required by the employer, and report workplace injuries or illness.
  • Work in compliance with New Brunswick Health and Saftey Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army's Health & Safety Policies and Procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with all COVID-19 protocols and requirements.
  • Perform other duties as required.
CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT:

Governance Boards and Councils: None

Internal:
  • Team members, Corps Officers, Corps members, volunteers, and staff
  • Area Commanders and Program Manager.
External:
  • Community
MANAGERIAL/Technical Leadership RESPONSIBILITY:
  • Report directly to: Corps Officer/Program Manager
  • The incumbent is responsible to provide supervision of 4 to 7 team members within established guidelines.
FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:
  • Oversee food budgets and monitor/manage food costs accordingly.
  • Oversee financial and materials management requirements for this position
WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Event attendance or work is required outside of regular office hours.
  • This job requires the ability to lift/move up to 20 lbs. and reach, bend, and or work in a standing position for periods of time.
  • Program vehicle provided if needed.
  • Travel required up to 10% for purchasing food, shelter supplies and travel to MU as required.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:
  • Completed an undergraduate University Degree, preferable in Human (Social) Services field.
  • Completion of a certificate or diploma in Biblical Studies/Youth Ministry education would be an asset.
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Experience and Knowledge Requirements:
  • Minimum of three (3) years of prior related experience, working in Shelter, managing resources and community orally.
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and time management skills.
  • Supervisory skills and the ability to lead, coach and motivate others.
PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:
  • Demonstrated ability to work with and relate to
  • Conflict management and resolution skills.
  • Ability to motivate and empower others
  • Strong computer skills, in Microsoft Office products is required, Word and Excel etc.
  • Attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics.
  • Self-motivated/disciplined.
  • Represent The Salvation Army in a positive, professional, and engaging manner.
  • Strong interpersonal, motivational, communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Attentive listening skills for the purpose of supervision, coaching, and conflict resolution.
  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening.
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding, support for and ability to model the mission, values and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
  • Ability and willingness to provide a valid Safe food Handling and Standard First Aid and CPR Certification.
Working Conditions: Contract Position until April 2023

12 hours per week

$26.00 per hour
