Job Summary
The Faculty of Management is recognized for its innovative, values-based approach to management education and research. Reporting to the Associate Dean (Academic), the Program Pathways Navigator is responsible for collaboratively overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Pathways program, developing and implementing community outreach and recruitment strategies, providing academic and culturally relevant and responsive student support services.
Key Responsibilities
Design and facilitate supportive and culturally informed programming aimed at enhancing student well being and success in our programs.
Work collaboratively with other employees and units to develop and maintain appropriate connections with Indigenous community partners to raise awareness of all Faculty of Management programs, particularly undergraduate programs.
Participate on relevant internal and external committees to foster and maintain external relationships within the Mi'kmaq community.
Consult on an individual basis with designated students regarding selection of appropriate courses and complementary educational experiences. Enhance students' awareness of available educational resources and make appropriate referrals.
Advise students in personalized job search techniques by assisting in areas such as career development, job search action plans, resumes/cover letters, practice interviews, value proposition creation, development of self-marketing action plans, references, and networking skills to prepare students to launch successful careers.
Identify policies, practices, regulations, and external factors that act as real or perceived barriers to career success for designated students.
Note
The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.
Required Qualifications
Undergraduate degree with three to five years related experience in student services, academic advising, career and employment services, coaching, mentoring or work-integrated learning (or an equivalent combination of training and experience).
Lived experience within the Indigenous community that contributes to an ability to provide guidance and support to students at varying degrees of their academic lifecycle.
Ability to demonstrate sufficient understanding of history, values, culture, and contemporary contexts with a focus on Mi'kmaq experience.
Existing relationships with Mi'kmaq communities
Knowledge, sensitivity and understanding of the personal, intersectional needs, concerns, and interests of Indigenous students.
Excellent human relations, customer service as well as written and oral communication skills.
Assets
Master's degree.
Prior experience working in a post-secondary environment.
